The storm damaged the Rádio Miúdos studio in Torres Vedras. Without a computer and mixing console, the children are doing radio online. Help us rebuild the studio and give them back the experience of doing radio in person.

Radio Miúdos was born with a simple yet powerful mission: to give children and young people a voice, allowing them to learn, experiment, and communicate through radio, and to be active and conscious citizens from an early age. In the Torres Vedras studio, this dream takes shape every day — with children creating programs, interviewing, laughing, making mistakes, and growing together, side by side, in person.

It was in this space that everything changed with the arrival of the storm that damaged our studio. From one moment to the next, we were left without two essential elements: the computer and the mixing console. Without them, the studio ceased to function. Silence settled where there had once been voices, ideas, and energy.

To avoid a complete shutdown, we found a temporary solution: continuing the broadcasts online. The children of Torres Vedras continue to participate, continue to learn and make radio. But they miss the most important thing — the physical studio, the meeting, the sharing, the teamwork in the same space. They miss being together, experiencing radio as a complete experience.

That's why we created this crowdfunding campaign. It's not just about replacing equipment. It's about rebuilding a space for creation, learning, and happiness. A place where children gain confidence, develop skills, and discover their own voice.

To show you the real impact of this project, we've also included a video where our kids demonstrate what it's like to make radio — the joy, dedication, and magic that happens when we give them a microphone and time [YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyQVcokrCZA].

But for all of this to continue, we need your help. Every contribution, small or large, brings us closer to returning to the Torres Vedras studio. Help us buy the computer and mixing console that have become unusable and upgrades (to prevent this from happening again) and give the children back what they miss most: being together making radio, with the quality they deserve.

If you believe that children should have a voice, space, and opportunity to create, then this campaign is for you too!

Join us. Contribute. Share. And help us get back on the air, live and with a voice.

About the author

At Rádio Miúdos, we believe that a citizen isn't born at 18! For 10 years, we've proven that children have everything they need to be conscious and active citizens, to know how to work in groups with other children from different cultures, to discuss ideas and respect themselves and others, to build a healthy world around them, starting now. Rádio Miúdos gives them a space where they are heard, where they have a voice, autonomy, confidence, and security. Where who they are and what they think truly matters and makes a difference in their lives and in the lives of others! This is the mission of Rádio Miúdos: To amplify the voices of children and help them grow as active and conscious citizens from an early age – all through a means of social communication – radio! We do it every day, they do it every day. In the studio and at events outside the studio.

Leading the team of adults (and children) are João Pedro Costa and Verónica Milagres, along with Nuno Saraiva.

João Pedro, Production and Training Coordinator and co-founder of Rádio Miúdos, is the main driving force behind this work with/for children. He has become a radio producer, sound engineer, journalist, and trainer.
Since 1985, he has learned at the BBC and RDP (and continues to learn). He worked at RFM, RGT-RádioGeste and TDM-Rádio Macau, Euronews, and was a producer and correspondent for many radio and television stations in Asia. He helped produce many documentaries for television and radio, and it was with all this experience that he arrived at Rádio Miúdos. For 10 years he has been doing this citizenship work with children who want to learn to communicate ideas and ensure that freedom of expression is the most basic language of democracy. And here he is doing work that, as he himself says, "fills my heart every day".

Verónica, the first visionary of this radio station and co-founder, is the Director. She works for the sustainability of Rádio Miúdos and always keeps the Mission and Vision of this initiative focused, as well as instilling its values. She has worked with children for over 30 years. She has a degree in Basic Education and Music Education. She has a postgraduate degree in Portuguese Sign Language – Teaching the Deaf and another in Business and Organizational Management. And she is a doting mother of 2. Or rather, 3, because Rádio Miúdos is like a child to her.

Nuno, in addition to managing the radio station's finances – he's been an accountant since 2008 and was a university professor for 10 years – is its most frequent and attentive listener. And he thinks about how and what to do better for our kids.
