"We want to be in the spotlight." The aim is to restore the lighting at the Pope Francis stadium to allow its regular use at night.
During Storm Kristin, the effects caused partial destruction of the floodlights at the Pope Francis Stadium in the city of Fatima. This situation creates constraints for the practice of sports by children, young people and adults who cannot practice various sports, namely athletics and football.
In terms of strategic priorities, it falls under the following categories:
- Cultural and sporting appreciation;
Strengthening territorial cohesion and community capacity;
This infrastructure is a municipal space that guarantees sports and leisure activities for children, young people, and adults, promoted by associative entities in the municipality of Ourém. It is in daily use, with greater incidence during the night when the operation of the floodlights is essential. This sports facility provides a response for approximately 400 practitioners of various sports, through the following entities: Fátima Sports Centre, ADRC Vasco da Gama, Fátima - Triathlon School, Fátima Athletics Group. With the current situation, there are no conditions for the regular operation of the Papa Francisco Stadium as a municipal community-based facility.
The beneficiaries of this intervention are all practitioners and users of this equipment from various sports, including football and athletics. This refurbishment will restore its normal operation, especially during nighttime hours.
