Restore the Cruz da Areia Scout Headquarters!

The headquarters of the Scout Group 776 Cruz da Areia suffered severe damage to its roof due to Storm Kristin, and the water infiltration on the roof during the following weeks caused intense leaks inside.

Currently, the interior of our headquarters is quite dilapidated, with dampness and mold on the ceiling and walls, and the electrical installation and various equipment have also been affected. This situation compromises the safety, comfort, and quality of activities, making the headquarters an unsuitable space to accommodate our scouts.

We need help to restore our Scout house and give it back the necessary conditions to dream, grow and live the Scouting experience!

Group 776 Cruz da Areia belongs to the Leiria-Fátima Region of the National Scout Corps (CNE) - Portuguese Catholic Scouting.

Our mission is to educate children and young people according to the scouting method , through group life, contact with nature, service, and co-responsibility. We want to form active, healthy, and happy citizens, capable of making this world a better place!

We have a team of over 100 children and young people and more than 20 adult volunteers committed to this educational mission!

In January 2026, on the weekend that Storm Kristin hit, we were going to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our Scout Group's official founding. We don't want the storm and the damage it caused to overshadow the dreams of our scouts, and that's why we need your help! Help us to remember this year as one of resilience and overcoming challenges, so that we have good reasons to celebrate our Scout Group's 40th anniversary!

Budget and due dates

The budget for the renovation of our headquarters is €23,000, divided as follows: approximately 80% for roof replacement (€19,000) and the remaining 20% (€4,000) for interior renovation.

Given the urgency, work on replacing the roof has already begun, and we estimate that interior restoration work will begin in late April/early May, when weather conditions are more favorable.

The interior renovation budget includes several essential interventions to restore our headquarters to dignified conditions, namely:

• Acquisition of anti-mold cleaning products and materials.
• Acquisition of products and materials for anti-humidity treatment and painting .
• Acquisition and installation of electrical equipment such as wiring, light fixtures and lamps .
• Acquisition of skilled labor for tasks that require it.

"A Scout's duty begins at home" is the 3rd Scout Principle, therefore, our Scouts are willing, committed and prepared to roll up their sleeves and collaborate in all the tasks necessary to make their Scout home what it once was!
