Rebuilding the Headquarters of the Leiria Volunteer Fire Department!
On January 28th, the storm destroyed 100% of the roof of our headquarters. Cyclonic winds destroyed furniture and equipment inside, and the projected debris damaged most of the emergency vehicles. Inside, the rain the following day destroyed computer equipment, furniture, and documentation.
Nationally, our headquarters suffered the most damage.
On the 29th we began protective measures to minimize damage, as well as cleaning the areas.
Experts from ANEPC (National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority) and the Portuguese Firefighters League estimated the damage to the Headquarters at 800,000 euros.
The Leiria Volunteer Firefighters are asking for your support so that we can have the essential repairs completed by May of this year, to fully guarantee our rescue operations which, it should be noted, have never been interrupted, despite the precarious conditions in which we have been working.
