Where once echoes of dives and dreams, now reigns the silence of a ruined infrastructure. The storm not only destroyed the pools: it took away the livelihood of dozens of families and interrupted the sporting routine of 1,500 users.
The Leiria Academic Solidarity Association (ASAL) provides daily care for the Leiria community with a daycare center, social support projects, and the Belo Horizonte Sports Complex, where more than 1,500 citizens, from babies to the elderly, practice swimming, water aerobics, Pilates, functional training, and pickleball. ASAL ensures 30 vital jobs for these social and sporting services.
In January 2026, Storm Kristen destroyed the roof of the Complex, forcing the immediate suspension of activities and leaving children and the elderly without access to physical activity, compromising their well-being and quality of life.
To reopen the space, it is necessary to:
- Install a new roof;
- Renovate the electrical installation;
- Replace windows and doors;
- Acquire an HVAC system;
The Complex is not just about sports: it's about inclusion, learning, and well-being, allowing children from vulnerable areas to learn to swim and enabling the senior population to combat loneliness.
With companies ready to begin construction, we need your support to finance the reconstruction and modernization. Our goal: to reopen on September 1, 2026, giving the community the space it deserves.
Contribute and be a part of this transformation. Every gesture helps restore health, movement, and joy to the lives of hundreds of people!
