Short film "Tomé"

Some stories can't be made up. And this is undoubtedly one of them.

Tomé is a short film about a daughter who accompanies her father during the final days of his life. A terminal neurological cancer that takes not only his body, but also the person she has always known—little by little, in silence, right before her eyes.

It is a film about love that cannot say goodbye. About the burden of being present when there is nothing to be done. About what remains between two people when words are no longer enough.

Based on the true story of the director, André Fournier, Tomé is his final project for his Master’s degree in Film at the Catholic University of Porto.

Why do we need your help?

The production has the support of the university, but that support isn’t enough to ensure the conditions this story deserves. Every euro raised goes directly toward the production: travel, meals, post-production, and everything else needed to bring this film to life with the dignity it deserves.

About the author

André Fournier is a filmmaker and a master’s student in film at the Catholic University of Porto. Born in Madeira, Portugal, he grew up with cinema as his language and found in it a way to process what life brings without asking permission.

Tomé is not just his academic project; it is his way of facing head-on something he has experienced. Of transforming pain into art. And of sharing it with anyone who wishes to receive it.

The technical team consists of film students united by the same conviction: that this story deserves to exist. André Fournier directs, accompanied by Alaa Arbi as director of photography, André Sanguedo as editor, Tatiana Pereira as assistant director, Jyotirmay Shuva as production assistant, and Mehyar Hajji as camera assistant.

In addition, we’d like to introduce the cast that will bring this story to life. Diogo Lima stars as Tomé, Bárbara Machado plays Carolina, Bruna Martins plays Gaia, and Rebeca Cunha plays Paula.

Budget and due dates

The money we raise goes directly toward what you see on screen: the people who bring this story to life and the conditions that make it possible to tell it with dignity. The technical equipment is provided by the university, and the team works on a volunteer basis because they believe in the project. What’s missing is everything else: the actors, the food on set, the van that takes us to locations, the props that build the world of the story.

Filming will take place the week of May 25–31, 2026. The film will be completed in June of the same year.
