Rebuilding the Penela Fire Station.
The Penela Volunteer Firefighters, with 45 years of history, are located in a rural municipality with approximately 5,500 inhabitants and are the largest civil protection force in the region. Currently, they have around 100 firefighters, 45 of whom are professionals, who every day ensure the safety of people, property, animals, and the environment in the municipality of Penela, the Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra, and the country.
The cascade of storms that hit the Central Region of the country caused serious and severe damage to the Penela Fire Station, affecting its operational capacity and the well-being of its personnel.
The damage affected various areas of the infrastructure, such as the Emergency Operations Center (telecommunications hub), the roofs of the garages, dormitories and training rooms, access to the lower floors where spare parts and replacement materials are stored, technical areas and workshops, and the Emergency Training Field (the main training location for firefighters at the regional, national and international levels).
The candidacy aims to restore normalcy to the Penela Fire Station, guaranteeing conditions for firefighters and consequently re-establishing operational capacity, while also considering adapting the station to respond to adverse events similar to those experienced.
