Pousos: Let's close the wound in the roof of our Church.

The fall of a pinnacle from the church tower left a scar on the ceiling of our church. We want to restore the wattle and daub structure and the shine of the decorative stucco. Help us heal this space that belongs to all of us.

• The force of the wind caused one of the pinnacles of the tower of our Church of Pousos to fall, piercing the roof and opening a gap in the ceiling of the church nave, above the upper choir.

• Restoring this ceiling requires respect for original construction techniques. The €7,000 raised will be used to reconstruct the supporting structure, apply wattle and daub (a traditional technique using wooden slats), and meticulously reconstruct the decorative stucco elements, restoring visual harmony to the church's interior. The work will be carried out by a reputable and accredited company specializing in heritage preservation.

• We want our church to once again be a place of peaceful reflection, free from the marks of destruction. As this is a reasonable amount, we are confident that we will be able to secure the necessary funding for this project.

About the author

The Parish of Our Lady of Exile - Pousos, located in the municipality of Leiria, is a community with a history deeply intertwined with that of its people.

For centuries, our Parish Church has shaped the landscape and served as the gathering place where we celebrate the most important moments of our lives. We are a community that takes great pride in its heritage.

The management of this restoration project is overseen by the Fábrica da Igreja Paroquial de Pousos, a non-profit ecclesiastical entity dedicated to maintaining public worship and preserving the historical and artistic heritage of our parish.

We have a team of dedicated volunteers, led by the parish priest, who ensure complete transparency in the management of all funds raised. Every euro donated to this campaign will be used exclusively for the stonework and the complex operation of re-installing these pinnacles at the top of our tower.

All interventions will be approved and monitored by specialized technicians from the Diocesan Department for Cultural Heritage.

These figures are based on a budget prepared by a leading conservation and restoration company in Portugal, with a portfolio of significant public and private projects:

• Scaffolding tower assembly for site access: 3 200€

• Reconstruction of the gap in the ceiling (supporting structure, wattle-and-daub partition, and reconstruction of the stucco ceiling and decorative elements): 3 800 €

Total: 7 000 €
