Equipping the Coimbra Volunteer Fire Department headquarters with a generator is a fundamental resource so that we can give our best without constraints.

The Coimbra Volunteer Fire Department headquarters does not have an alternative power supply system.

In situations like those we have recently experienced, namely storms or blackouts, this operational unit is prevented from carrying out its activities effectively. It is essential that we have a redundant system so that, in the event of a power outage or interruption, the operational system and critical points of the fire station remain functional.

It should be noted that our entire fire station is connected to the electrical grid, and that in the event of a failure, the minimum hygiene and comfort standards for our personnel are also compromised. During the last storms, some of our firefighters literally lived in our fire station, which further reinforces the importance of this alternative system.

With this project, we were able to guarantee operational efficiency in extreme situations, providing energy autonomy to this infrastructure.

About the author

The Coimbra Volunteer Firefighters Humanitarian Association is a public utility institution, founded on April 7, 1889. Its history is based on the fundamental pillars of solidarity, mutual aid, a sense of mission, and providing assistance to the population and their property.

They carry out their activities within society, being an institution that people trust.

In 2025 we responded to approximately 8,000 requests, and during the recent storms we intervened in over 250 incidents.

We are an institutional benchmark in our city, but like so many others, we depend on benefactors, members, and friends to achieve our goals.

We are not asking for luxury or pampering; we are asking for equipment that guarantees our operational capacity 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and that helps us to help those who need us.

Budget and due dates

The total cost of the project is €14,391, comprising €10,000 for the generator, €950 for the electrical components to be installed in the barracks, and €750 for the lifting equipment that will place the equipment on the upper slab of the building. The remaining amount (€2,691) reflects taxes.

After the proposed budget is awarded, the equipment will be delivered within 30 days, and its installation will take approximately one week.
