Storm Kristin caused damage to emergency vehicles at our fire stations in Leiria and Monte Redondo, as well as to the Personal Protective Equipment of our firefighters.
On January 28th, the collapse of the roofs and gates of the vehicle parking areas at our barracks (Headquarters in Leiria and Detached Company in Monte Redondo) caused significant damage to the rescue vehicles, including broken windows and damage to the vehicles' structure.
In addition to the above, the personal protective equipment that was in the open lockers was scattered and destroyed by the debris and damaged by the rains of the following days.
On the 29th we began repairs to minimize damage as well as cleaning the spaces.
Experts from ANEPC and the Firefighters League assessed the damage to the two fire stations at 90,000 euros (vehicles 60,000 euros and equipment 30,000 euros).
The Leiria Volunteer Firefighters are asking for your support so that we can have the essential repairs completed by April of this year, to fully guarantee our rescue operations which, it should be noted, have never been interrupted, despite the precarious conditions in which we have been working.
