The Pombal Scout headquarters was destroyed by Storm Kristin after pine trees fell, rendering it beyond repair. An essential space for young people, the aim now is to build a new, safe headquarters, ensuring the continuity of scouting.
For decades, the headquarters of the Pombal Scout Group was much more than just a building. It was a safe space where children and young people grew up, learned, and forged lifelong bonds. Located in a wooded area, the headquarters allowed for direct contact with nature, exploration of the territory, outdoor play, and the development of educational activities fundamental to scouting. There, they learned to respect others, care for the environment, work as a team, and always be attentive to the needs of the community.
Storm Kristin came to brutally interrupt this story. Several large pine trees fell on the headquarters, literally splitting it in two. The structural damage was so extensive that recovery became impossible. From one moment to the next, the scouts were left without their reference point, without the place where so many generations had learned the meaning of always being alert.
Even deprived of their own home, the scouts did not hesitate to fulfill their mission. In the most difficult days that followed the storm, they were on the front line of support, actively collaborating in the logistics center, welcoming, guiding, and helping all the people who arrived there seeking assistance. They demonstrated, once again, that scouting is not defined by walls, but by values: solidarity, service, and commitment to others.
Now, they are the ones who need help. This campaign aims to raise the necessary funds for the construction of a new headquarters, safe, functional and suitable for the needs of the children and young people of today and tomorrow. A space where they can play again, learn, explore nature and become responsible and caring citizens.
Helping to rebuild the Pombal Scout headquarters is investing in education, the community, and the future. It's ensuring that this essential educational project remains alive, strong, and capable of serving our community, as it always has.

Budget and due dates
The construction of the new headquarters for the Pombal Scouts requires a total estimated investment of €167,268 (including VAT). This will require work in five phases.
The first phase involves removals and demolitions, at an approximate cost of €12,000, which includes clearing the land, removing structures damaged by Storm Kristin, waste disposal, and cutting and removing affected trees. This step is essential to restore safety to the area and prepare the site for new construction.
The preparatory work phase follows, with an estimated cost of €17,550, which includes land shaping, drainage, excavation, and the construction of the structural base in masonry and reinforced concrete. This phase ensures the stability and durability of the future headquarters.
The building's structure represents the largest investment in the project, at approximately €97,500, corresponding to the supply and assembly of the wooden structure, walls, roof, floors, doors, and windows. This option ensures comfort, landscape integration, and suitability for scouting activities.
The technical installation phase, valued at approximately €20,000, includes the electrical networks, water supply, sanitation, and other essential infrastructure for the building's operation.
Subsequently, the installation of complementary interior infrastructure (electrical networks, telecommunications, fire safety and water) represents an investment of €6,500.
Finally, the acquisition of basic furniture and equipment, including kitchen and sanitary facilities, is estimated at €4,250, allowing the headquarters to become fully operational and host activities for children and young people.
The projected construction schedule includes the following stages:
-
Months 1–2: Removals, demolitions, and site clearing.
-
Months 3–4: Preparatory work and foundations
-
Months 5–7: Supply and assembly of the headquarters structure.
-
Month 8: Technical installations and infrastructure
-
Month 9: Furniture, finishing touches, and commissioning.
The implementation of this schedule will allow the Scouts of Pombal to once again have a safe place to grow, learn, play, and serve the community within approximately 9 months.
