The Henrique Sommer School Group intends to create a covered outdoor space for classes and socializing, requalifying an area with limited use. The project reinforces pedagogical innovation and improves learning conditions.
The Henrique Sommer School Group was severely affected by Storm Kristin, which caused significant damage to its school infrastructure. Of the three classroom blocks previously in operation, only one is currently operational, albeit with considerable limitations. To ensure the continuity of classes, it was necessary to temporarily install containers on the school grounds, a solution that, while indispensable, does not offer the most suitable conditions for the full development of the teaching-learning process.
The damage caused by the storm and the replacement of classrooms with containers particularly hampered the performance of laboratory activities in all areas of teaching, as well as significantly reducing the spaces available for socializing, collaborative work, and the development of pedagogical activities in an outdoor environment.
Given this reality, the school group intends to redevelop an area that is currently underutilized and degraded, located next to the Visual and Technological Education and Music Education classrooms. This space is currently occupied by a metal storage shed for obsolete materials, the removal of which will allow for a more efficient and pedagogical use of the surrounding area, as well as significantly improving this space, making it more appealing and pleasant for young people, and motivating learning.
The proposed intervention consists of constructing a pergola approximately 10 meters long by 6 meters wide, equipped with an acrylic tile roof, ensuring protection against weather conditions and allowing its use throughout the school year. Simultaneously with the construction of the pergola, a green space with suitable vegetation will be created to provide lateral protection, enhancing contact with nature.
This new multifunctional space will allow for the installation of tables and workbenches, providing suitable conditions for practical classes, interdisciplinary projects, pedagogical workshops, experimental activities, and collaborative learning opportunities. Simultaneously, it will constitute a space for leisure, socializing, and well-being for students, promoting a more diversified use of the school's outdoor spaces.
The implementation of this project will help minimize the constraints resulting from the destruction of school infrastructure, increasing the Group's capacity to respond to current educational needs. Simultaneously, it will promote pedagogical innovation, the enhancement of school spaces, inclusion, the development of transversal skills, and improved learning quality, directly benefiting the entire educational community.
The requested support therefore represents an investment with a lasting impact, allowing the transformation of a degraded space, currently without use, into a modern, functional educational environment adapted to the present and future needs of the school.
