Summary in English

My project is to participate in the 45th anual meenting of the Association for Spanish and Portguese Historical Studies (ASPHS) wich will be held in Modena, Italy in 2014 (26th to 29th of June).

My presentation "José Relvas and the diplomatic strategies of the first Portugueses Republic (1909-1913)" has already been acepted by the international organization of such conference. In this moment I seek to obtain support to face the costs of such participation  

José Relvas (1858-1929) was a famosous republican leader. He held office as Finance Minister in the provisinal government and later served as Minister (or Embassador) to Spain between 1911 to 1913. Besides his political activities, he managed his family estate, a vast agricultural company centered in wine production, mostly for exportation purposes. Also, José Relvas was a major art lover, colector and amateur musician. In his house, the Casa do Patudos, desingded like a country side manor, he created one of the most rich colections of famous paintings among other decoratif arts in Portugal, mainly focus on the naturalistic and realist movments.  He was the only Portuguese person ever reported to have owned a Stradivarius violin.

In this moment, as a PhD thesis in History, I am developing a bioghraphycal thesis about José Relvas. This is an excellent oportunity to promoted and let  my research be knowed in an international academic enviroment.

About the author

My name is José Raimundo Noras I am graduated in History and have a master degree in Art History, Tourism and Cultural Heritage. I have worked in the fields of education, scientific research, cultural ecomony as a private consultant and as a teacher. In 2008 I won the National Students of History prize, for an essay in Art History, with the work "Cenas da Vida de um Cine-Teatro - o Teatro Rosa Damasceno de Santarém" (Scenes for the life of a movie teather - the Rosa Damasceno Teather of Santarém). I have some published books, among them the "Fotobiografia de José Relvas (1858-1929)" (Photobiography of José Relvas) Imagens & Letras, 2010.

In this momento I am working in a PhD thesis about José Relvas as a politician, thus my main motivation is to be able to present part of my project in an international scientific encounter. 

Budget and due dates

Neste momento já decidi concretizar a ida a Modena, no entanto, preciso de apoio porque me está a ser difícil suportar os suportar os custos de deslocação e alojamento sozinho de modo e este projecto servira sobretudo para amortizar despesas assumidas bem como outros que terei durante o congresso. Ao mesmo tempo considera que seria uma situação pioneira envolvendo a comunidade no esforço de participação no encontro científica internacional como um trabalho de investigação histórica. Se projectar tiver financiamento ou mesmo divulgação suficiente pode abrir caminhos e perspectivas a muitos investigadores exclusivamente dependentes de bolsas e fundos próprios para a participação neste tipo de eventos. Ou seja o intuito não só financiar, mas também divulgar e envolver o mais possível a comunidade neste projecto. Originalmente gostaria de ter lançado o projecto durante o mês de Maio por circunstâncias várias não foi possível, sobretudo pelo desenvolvimento de vários elementos como a viabilização das recompensas previstas. O encontro decorre de 26 a 29 de Junho, terei de partir para Itália a 23/Junho. Pelo que até 22/Junho o crowdfunding terá de estar concluído. Prevejo que alguma recompensas seja enviadas de Itália aos apoiantes e noutros casos em que as recompensas são a Visita aos Patudos e as Sessões de Formação as mesmas serão agendadas para as duas últimas semanas de Setembro. A posterior realização da conferência em Portugal será agendada em Outubro no IPS e todos os apoiantes serão convidados formalmente.
