FLASHBACK is a project, and a book, dedicated to the unique experience of collecting and shooting the cameras and the films I could have used during my lifetime but only now I have the chance to. For the last three years I have been showing my habitat to more than 300 twentieth century film cameras, whose eyes had only seen other corners of the planet before. For that purpose I used some 20 different roll film types, that in some cases have stopped being produced decades ago.
A book like this, displaying the cameras together with the photos produced with them, is not a common endeavor. It is a rare object.
More then seventy of the cameras in my collection were born before me and, in some cases, have been around for 100 years or more. The cameras came from all over the world and I just cannot imagine what they have seen in their lives (except for the pictures left by someone inside some of the cameras).
Now, when I shoot them, it is a bit like showing my habitat to them.
I started the collection with the feeling that film photography was disappearing and the opportunity to practice it would not last for long.
Now I feel I started something that will be with me until the end of my life.

About the author
Fernando Penim Redondo was born in Lisbon (1945).
Started very young as an autodidact.
After retirement in 2000, he could finally show his work in a number of towns around Portugal , Netherlands and Brazil (14 individual and 5 collective exhibitions). Most exhibitions took place in museums, cultural centers and public libraries. Also published works in "Camera Craft - Black & White" a book of AVA Publishing SA.
In 2010 was awarded the first prize in a contest sponsored by the Portuguese MONTEPIO Bank.
September 2012 was invited to the Central Exhibition of the KAUNAS Photo Festival, Latvia.
Budget and due dates
I have planned to raise enough to allow the production of at least 120 books, 160 pages printed on quality paper.
Publication will take place in the September/October time frame. The total number of books produced will be dependent of the success of this campaign.
The book, as already stated, will present the 300+ cameras in the collection side by side with the photos taken with them. ALso some data about logistics of the project.
An exhibition will take place in September where a part of the collection will be displayed as well as photographs according to the book style. This will take place in an Exhibition Center in Lisbon (Portugal) region.
