Storm Kristin destroyed the school playground. It is urgent to rehabilitate the space to ensure safe conditions and restore the children's right to play.
With Storm Kristin, the Marinheiros Basic School, located in the parish of Marrazes, in Leiria, was left without the playground equipment for the children to play on, as well as having its shaded areas destroyed. The awning that sheltered the children from the rain and sun flew away. Some of the trees that decorated the school playground and provided shade fell.
The school is attended by 87 children in the first cycle of primary education, many of whom come from low-income families. Most children are at school between 8 am and 7 pm, also attending during school breaks so that their parents can work.
It is urgent to equip the playground with certified play equipment that will restore the appropriate conditions for children to safely enjoy the school's outdoor space.
Play areas are essential for children's physical exercise and emotional well-being.

The AEM (Area of Educational Intervention) has been a Priority Intervention Educational Territory since 1996. It currently has 2500 students of 37 different nationalities, distributed across 24 educational establishments. Its area of intervention is located in a zone marked by a rather fragile social and economic context.
