Adapting a vehicle for people with reduced mobility - Enhancing PCDI participation / self-determination.

The APCV - Cerebral Palsy Association in Viseu – Portugal, would like to adapt a vehicle for people with disabilities with reduced mobility by applying a lifting platform.

Building on Romeu Kazumi Sassaki's famous quote "Nothing About Us Without Us": From Integration to Inclusion , this technical assistance will enable APCV members with reduced mobility to actively participate in governing bodies forums, workshops, and meetings with government representatives, social partners and stakeholders. In summary it will enable people with disabilities to play an active role in the fight for citizenship rights and fight against the prejudice of persons with disabilities who still remain at alarming levels in several levels of social life. This project, through the creation of conditions for the individual participation of people with reduced mobility, will allow to influence the political and social power for this theme in a logic of promoting equal opportunities.

About the author

The Viseu Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese Association of Cerebral Palsy (currently known as the Viseu Cerebral Palsy Association) was born from the need to support children and young people with Cerebral Palsy, from the Viseu District, who had previously had to travel to the Regional Nucleus of Cerebral Palsy. APPC Center and other Institutions.

It is currently developing physical medicine and rehabilitation services and in the last half of 2017 opened its doors to the community with the establishment of a vegetable sales office called “RIA na Quinta” (the result of an application to BPI Capacitar with the project “ Towards Inclusion and Self-Sustainability).

Throughout its years of existence, it has been presenting several social projects and incorporating innovative approaches that allow the pursuit of its statutory purposes, with a view to meeting the needs of the people it supports and all its stakeholders.

APCV supports more than 500 people with disabilities, disabilities and / or disadvantages, of both genders, and has a workforce of around 130 employees, distributed in the Social Responses and Services provided.
