ADRA Portugal annually supports hundreds of students from two schools: Ribeira Funda and Vila José. With ADRA São Tomé and Príncipe's local administration, we have established a support plan for children, families, schools (infrastructure and teacher training) and the community. .

With sponsorship, we were able to provide children with:

  • School and support material (including gowns)
  • 2 school meals per day
  • Rain gear (waterproof covers and shoes)
  • Pedagogical accompaniment
  • Medical follow-up (in particular general medical consultations, mycosis treatment, deworming and dental treatment)
  • Money for extracurricular activities
  • By 2020, we also intend to renew the school equipment.

About the author

In Portugal, ADRA has been in association since 2000, although its volunteers have been involved in social activities since the first half of the twentieth century. It was made official in 2001, when it was recognized as a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGDO) by the then Portuguese Institute for Development Support (IPAD).

ADRA Portugal currently divides its action strategy into two distinct areas: support for development and emergency projects in less developed countries, especially the PALOP; and the support of programs to support our country most disadvantaged social groups, such as the homeless, the elderly suffering from isolation, poor families and children in need.

ADRA's 109 local delegations work diligently, together with their social partners, to meet the basic needs of many women, men, children, youth, immigrants and older people who rely on their support. They also try hard to find solutions that contribute to changing the social and economic situation of those who seek them, with the aim of restoring the dignity of each individual and enhancing the development of their abilities. Wherever possible, community development is also an objective to be achieved.

With professionalism, we make solidarity with daily practice.
