We need your help to purchase protective material for healthcare professionals. Only in this way can we fulfill our role: ensuring the provision of adequate care, without becoming vehicles for transmitting the COVID-19.

In recent weeks, Health Units have faced a shortage of protective equipment for health professionals, crucial for combating the COVID-19 pandemic in Portugal. The imbalance between the demand and the global supply of this equipment has delayed the arrival of the protection material to professionals in the field.

In the absence of material, the alternatives will be two: refusal to follow patients without protection or contamination by the professional.

As we think that none of these solutions is suitable for our users, because we want to continue providing adequate health care, because diseases continue to exist in addition to COVID-19, and because patients with other pathologies that need follow-up cannot fail to do so. have for being infected, we appeal to your support to face this battle .

A significant share of cases reported in China and Italy, especially during the early stages of the outbreak, appeared among health professionals, mainly due to difficulties in organizing structures and supplying material. This led to the need for quarantine measures by professionals, at a time when their availability is essential . And in cases where this did not happen, many of these professionals were the vehicles for transmitting the virus to patients.

We could just wait and react to the lack. But we want to do it differently, we want to anticipate and do what we can so that we can continue to guarantee the provision of adequate care to everyone. But, above all, so that professionals are not themselves vehicles of transmission of Covid19 to healthy people .

This crowdfunding aims to raise funds to purchase protective material for health professionals at the Family Health Unit (USF) Rodrigues Miguéis , in Benfica (Lisbon), who provide care to more than 14 thousand users. The amount raised will be used exclusively for the purchase of personal protective material such as masks, gloves, disposable gowns and antiseptic solutions.

None of the promoters of the campaign will have any financial compensation and all the money will be invested in the purchase of protective material. Campaign supporters will do so willingly, without receiving any compensation. If the amount raised within the established period does not reach the proposed goal, the funds raised in the meantime will be fully returned to the supporters.

About the author

This is an initiative of two doctors from the Family Health Unit (USF) Rodrigues Miguéis , Dr. Joana Carvalho and Dr. Sofia Cassamo, joined by Manuel Maria Vilas-Boas Tavares, legal advisor to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Health , and Dr. Inês Vilaboas Tavares, physician at USF Gerações.

Inês Vilasboas Tavares has been a doctor since 2012. She has a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, and a specialist in General and Family Medicine since 2018, with the professional card OM 54896. She currently works as a family doctor at Aces Lisboa Norte, USF Generations.

Joana Neto de Carvalho, a doctor since 1979, has a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. She became a specialist in Occupational Medicine in 1990 and General and Family Medicine in 1993. Her professional card is OM 21468. Currently she works as a family doctor at Aces Lisboa Norte, USF Rodrigues Miguéis.

Manuel Vilasboas Tavares has been a lawyer since 1983. He graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. He currently works in the Legal Office of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Health.

Sofia Cassamo has been a doctor since 2015. She has a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, with a professional certificate OM58241. She is currently a General and Family Medicine intern at ACES Lisboa Norte, USF Rodrigues Miguéis.

Budget and due dates

The supplier we have located has the capacity to supply, in the next 15 days, gloves, surgical masks (common), FFP2 - EN 149 masks and antiseptic solution. With 5,000 euros, we managed to acquire 2000 common masks, 303 FFP2 masks - EN 149 and 50L of antiseptic solution.

The more we can raise, the more professionals we can protect, for the longest time. If we manage to exceed the value of the campaign, we commit to extending this support to other health entities that need it. We are also committed to its rational and responsible use and distribution.

PPL is not charging any fees for this campaign except for the payment costs
