Nilton needs a castle

Nilton is 17 years old, lives in Estarreja and suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. He is currently admitted to the North Rehabilitation Center. The mother's house needs to be adapted to her new reality.

Love and solidarity is what we need right now. And it is no coincidence that we say that “unity is strength”. Everyone's help can really turn castles into realities and that's what we want for our prince Nilton, 17 years old, who lives in the parish of Salreu, in Estarreja. In May 2022, this “Precious Stone” suffered a hemorrhagic Cardiovascular Accident (CVA) that changed her life, and that of her family, forever. A boy with an easy and contagious smile and always in a good mood. A boy who loves football, fishing and is passionate about cars and motorcycles. Nilton was also a fun boy, who liked to hang out with his friends, in addition to collaborating in a solidary way. So, suddenly, from an active life, he started to live totally dependent to carry out all the daily tasks, from food, hygiene, locomotion and necessary treatments. At this time, he cannot return to his mother's house, as Nilton does not have the necessary conditions and accessibility in his mother's house to be able to return home. And that's why we're asking for your donation, your contribution so that this young man can live life, within his possibilities, in the comfort of his home, which he misses a lot, with those who love him the most, the your mother. We therefore want to build this castle for this prince. But, for that, we need to demolish the annex to that house in order to expand it and thus build a new space with the creation of an accessible route (a ramp, entrance, bedroom, a support area, sanitary installation and adaptation for the living room and kitchen divisions). We want to give a dignified life to young Nilton who, from one moment to another, ceased to be who he was. We want you to wake up in your mother's room, in your room, not in the four walls of a hospital room. We want to provide a smile for knowing that you are with the one you love. We want you to see and recognize that you are at home. We want Nilton to be happy the way he is, because this sweet boy deserves to live in his own castle, his home in Estarreja. Thus, we only appeal to share love, translating into a solidarity donation. And isn't it so nice and cozy to know that what seems like just a small gesture is a big act of love and sharing. About the author

There are fairy tales that come true. Cooperativa Pedrinhas, based in Lousã, in the district of Coimbra, is proof of that. It is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO), which emerged in 2018, with such a noble mission: to support children, “Precious Pebbles”, as we call them, with oncological disease or equally serious pathologies. Within the various missions it embraces, the “Um Castelo – Pedrinha a Pedrinha” project is the biggest challenge, but also one that makes us feel most useful and that we have such a solid purpose in life – to rehabilitate the housing of needy families so that these “Pedrinhas” can have their Castle with all the conditions that allow them to live in the comfort of their own home, where love and the will to win reign. In total, Pedrinhas has already built six castles, made six princes and princesses happy, providing all the necessary comfort and safety to children when they are discharged from hospital, through interventions in their homes. Currently, five more "kingdoms" are in the initial phase to be completed this year.

“Pedrinhas” was born from the joy and energy of Pedrinho, son of Ana Brazião (founder). For about five years, this boy lived with the disease of molecules, which ended up taking him from this world at the age of 10 years and 364 days. But Pedrinho left a lot of love that led to the creation of this Cooperative, in which all the founders participated in his life and experienced the successes and adversities of the life of a child with an oncological disease. A true “Pedrinhástica” Family with the desire to make children happy and to never give up dreaming in their “Castles”.

Budget and due dates

Intervention at Nilton's mother's house with Demolition, Expansion and Construction Works worth 24650 Euros.

It includes the following phases:

• Demolition of the annex for further housing expansion

• Filling and Correction of the access ramp slope

• Demolition of access to the kitchen

• Construction of ramp to the room

• Creating an accessible route for Nilton

• Construction of an Expansion Zone for an Accessible Room and Sanitary Installation

• Construction of a support area and storage of Nilton's equipment

• The work is expected to be completed in 3 months

• Additional amounts will be applied to exterior arrangements so that Nilton can enjoy the outdoor space in the comfort of his mother's house.
