The Abecedário_Festival of the Word aims to support and promote the street bookstores, doing it through the realization of a group of gatherings and concerts around the various senses of a word. This year the word is “border”.

The Abecedário_Festival da Palabra is promoted by the Reading Booth, in Praça de Londres, in Lisbon, in collaboration with Barata, Tigre de Papel and Leituria bookstores and will take place from 8 to 11 March this year, with the aim of promoting bookstores street, paying homage to a different word every year. This year, the word chosen is FRONTIER.

It will seek to explore the various meanings of the word frontier: real, geographical, natural, economic, cultural, religious, social, technological, psychological, thinking, carrying out an analysis of the current and future perspectives in the view of writers, thinkers, , directors, artists, cultural managers and Lusophone musicians, through the holding of tertulias, literary cafes, recitals and concerts, which will take place during 4 days, in 3 bookstores, 3 libraries 1 shop and 3 cafes in Lisbon. Of these spaces 4 are Stores with History.

The Campaign "Giving your hands to bookstores" aims to contribute to the realization of the festival.

About the author

The promoter of the Festival of the Word is a Reading Booth of Lisbon. A micro library with about 150 books installed in an old telephone booth from 1910, created in 2014, which aims to promote reading and strengthen ties of solidarity and citizenship. A project conceived and idealized by Bairro em Movimento association in partnership with the PT Foundation, which is maintained by volunteers and thanks to individual donations. Given the enormous success of the initiative, the project has grown and there are currently more than 20 Cabins throughout the country.

Budget and due dates

The total budget of the Festival is € 8,000.

In January it was necessary to start the disclosure.

In January it was necessary to pay for two plane trips to participants.

By February 15, it is necessary to start making publicity materials.

March 1st, it is necessary to strengthen the dissemination through social networks, namely Facebook and Instagram.
