The donations are intended for the Rising Child Association's mission in São Tomé and Príncipe, where a team of volunteers will provide support to children with disabilities and their families, continuing the work begun in 2025.
🧡 CAROL 2026 – Giving movement, health and dignity to children in São Tomé
🌍 About the project
In São Tomé and Príncipe, many children with motor disabilities live without access to healthcare, rehabilitation, and adequate support.
Prolonged immobility, coupled with a lack of specialized support, increases the risk of serious complications — such as respiratory infections, mobility difficulties, and pressure ulcers — many of which are preventable.
The CAROL – Children Are Our Legacy project was created to address this reality.
In July 2026, a multidisciplinary team of volunteers will travel to the field for 2.5 weeks, with the aim of directly intervening with these children, empowering caregivers, and contributing to a real improvement in their quality of life.
💡 What are we going to do?
During the mission, we will:
🧑⚕️ Conduct physiotherapy interventions with children and young people with motor disabilities.
👨👩👧 Empowering caregivers and families by teaching mobility techniques, positioning, respiratory hygiene, and complication prevention.
📚 Promoting health education, with a focus on the early detection of warning signs.
🤝 Working in collaboration with local partners, reinforcing the continuity of care.

🎯 Why is it important?
Small interventions can have a big impact:
Improve breathing
Prevent infections
Avoid injuries and pain.
Increase functionality and autonomy.
But above all, this project provides families with the tools to ensure that care continues beyond our presence on the ground.
👥 Who are we?
We are a team of volunteers from the Rising Child Association, with experience in the areas of health, education and community intervention.
For the 2026 mission, we are counting on:
4 physiotherapists
1 teacher
1 physical education professional
United by a common goal: to promote health, dignity, and inclusion.
💸 Where does the money go?
Transparency is one of our commitments.
Based on the mission carried out in 2025, we were able to realistically estimate the costs of an intervention on the ground.
Although all expenses were covered by the Rising Child volunteers, it is important to note the costs involved for 3 volunteers:
🏠 Accommodation: €500
🍽️ Meals: €720
🚗 Travel expenses (vehicle + fuel): €640
✈️ Trips: €2,700
🛡️ Insurance: €150
👉 Total: €4,710
👉 ≈ €1,570 per volunteer, per mission
📈 And in 2026?
In 2026, the team will be larger (6 members), which naturally increases the total costs of the mission.
However, we opted to set a realistic and achievable crowdfunding goal: €3,000 – €4,000.
👉 This amount does not cover all costs, but it represents essential support in making this mission possible.
💡 How will it be used?
The funds raised will be used for:
✈️ Partially support the team's travel costs.
🧰 Acquire necessary materials for intervention and training.
🚗 Ensuring local transportation for children and families
📚 Produce training materials for caregivers
The remaining costs will be covered by the volunteers themselves and the association.
❤️ Our commitment
All team members also contribute financially to this mission, reinforcing our commitment to the project and to the children we support.
