The goal is to equip the Coimbra Volunteer Firefighters with the necessary equipment to intervene in extreme scenarios like those we have recently experienced. Protecting our firefighters and acquiring the necessary resources for these situations is essential.

The Coimbra Volunteer Firefighters responded to more than 250 incidents during Storm Kristin and the events that followed.

The most frequent incidents in our municipality were of various types, including: falling trees and structures, landslides, floods, and others. Equipping the fire department with the necessary equipment to respond to these types of incidents is essential, not only because of the specific nature of the events, but also because of the increase in these extreme weather phenomena, where immediate response to the population is limited due to a lack of technical resources.

About the author

The Coimbra Volunteer Firefighters Humanitarian Association is a public utility institution that relies on community support and the provision of services. In 2025, we responded to approximately 8,000 incidents.

We have a Fire Department with 82 personnel, 23 of whom are professional employees. We have some shortages of material resources, and the storm season confirmed this. We were involved in numerous incidents where limited equipment restricted our rapid response, particularly in the context of floods and inundations, as well as in the stabilization of structures and slopes.

We are an institution with 137 years of activity, respected and recognized by our city.

We are a fundamental institution in the civil protection system.

Budget and due dates

The proposed budget aims to equip our fire department with specific equipment for intervention in adverse weather conditions.

It includes an investment of 34,968.61, of which 1,979.61 reflects taxes.

Following the awarding of the contract, the delivery of the equipment is expected within 60 days.
