A Zona is an anthology of comics and illustration

Zona is an anthology of comics and illustration, in activity since 2009, published by Associação Tentáculo.

In each issue, the objective is to bring together a consistent group of works and authors, looking for quality, but at the same time, keeping an open door to newer and inexperienced authors who already present a good level and prospects for growth, having already published more from a hundred authors.

Due to several delays and the pandemic, which has affected all areas of society and, in particular, the artistic areas, the presentation of the commemorative magazine, which should have been launched in 2019, has been postponed. Based on the popular adage 'better late than never', the Associação Tentacula decided that 2023 would be the year for the launch of the magazine Zona 10 Anos , with the participation of more than twenty authors, comprising a varied and interesting number.

About the author

The Tentacle Association , founded in 2010, is currently made up of five artistic projects that operate in the areas of comics (BD), illustration and literature, namely the Avenida Marginal , H-alt , ACBD Tentacula, Zona and Imaginauta projects :

1. The comic book magazine Zona , created in 2009, has published 14 issues, disseminating and promoting national and international artists and authors. Associated with this publication, several exhibitions and participation in events have been held.
2. the Avenida Marginal project, launched in 2009, is characterized by five essential components which include the organization of an international competition of comic shorts for all Portuguese-speaking countries, itinerant exhibitions, edition of a comic and illustration fanzine, academic research and training of future authors through BD workshops (http://concursobdavenidamarginal.blogspot.com);
3. the H-alt project was launched in 2015 and integrates several activities, such as the publication of semi-annual speculative fiction comics magazines and special editions (15 issues published), a podcast where several comic book authors and artists are interviewed (150 interviews to date), an event to reward H-alt magazine contributors, articles and interviews about comics and participation in festivals and exhibitions ( https://h-alt.weebly.com );
4. The ACBD Tentacle Project is a Lusophone 'art cred' initiative in which a guest writer shares a script or a poem to be illustrated using typical comic book conventions. The boards created on a single page are shared on Tentaçou's Facebook page, on the association's official website and on an Instagram page. Participants in the ACBD Tentacula are automatically candidates for the triennial Avenida Marginal ;
5. Imaginauta , in operation since 2014, has as its main objective the promotion of science fiction and fantasy by publishing works in these genres and organizing events such as the Contacto Literary Festival and the horror story marathon It's Alive!

Currently, the Tentacle Association has established a partnership with the Clube Português de Banda Senhada, based in Amadora, where it will organize exhibitions and workshops dedicated to the areas of comics and illustration, and a partnership with the Câmara de Alpiarça where it will organize, this year, and the first edition of the Alpiarça Fanzines and Comics Festival.

Budget and due dates

To cover part of the costs of printing this book we request the support of those interested in financing € 600:

a) € 55.35 for the platform fee;

b) € 544.65 for printing the book.

Any amount raised above the requirement will be welcome and will be used to help cover the costs of producing the book and shipping the rewards to supporters of this project.

The book will measure 270 mm x 190 mm (height x width) and will be printed in color, with around 128 pages.

This support request ends on June 17, 2023.

Books + rewards will be sent to all who contribute to this project from the moment the book is ready.

The book will be launched at the Beja International Festival in June 2023.
