In the 100 years of the Portuguese Communist Party, we revisited its history through 100 objects and their stories. We intend to come up with a book that makes them known.
In the year that the PCP celebrates its 100th anniversary, we look for 100 stories to tell.
What is a party made of?
In the 100 years of the Portuguese Communist Party, we revisited its history through 100 objects and their stories.
How to look at the period from 1921 to 2021 in a different way? What could we bring back to a story that builds up with a panoply of sources, with different analyzes and still memories? A story that is not over, that is built daily from the Party that asserts itself in the future.
The idea came from a common object: a box of matches. How important is a matchbox in a clandestine house? A chess made with bread in prison. To play for two or for one? But also a key just like so many others, just like the suitcase that was used to transport documents. And that stone? Why was it kept? It was used in an attack on a Work Center. All these objects are thought in relation to the scale of the body, to the human scale. They imply a tactile relationship with its owner. It is necessary to remember the hands that handled them, who used them, who kept them. Thus, we call on memory and voice to narrate the biography of objects. That, like people, have a life story.
They are common objects guarded by militants. That tell their personal experience inserted in a collective, in a thread of voices and desires that has been built for 100 years.
