Concerto em Albi - França, intercâmbio em 2017

I run after my dream since I was little!

This campaign is the way I found to overcome another barrier and take another step forward. Music is where I find, every day, the justifications and forms of expression that are part of everyday life. It's in music that I live and it's from music that I want to live! With all the financial difficulties that a young person has at the beginning of their career, it is impossible, by itself, to achieve a financial structure that allows this barrier to be broken down. It's not a whim! It's not an extravagance! It's my strength, will and ambition to get there, to my dream! ... to my future!

It is with your help that I can get there! Thank you for accompanying me on this path!

About the author

Hi, I'm Djonathan Silva, I'm 19 years old, I'm from Oporto, Portugal, and I play the Viola.

Originally from Brazil, my family arrived in Portugal when I was 3 years old and, like all immigrant families, the difficulties and challenges were immense: starting from scratch, seeking financial and family stability and general adaptation to a new reality, culture and routines . It was a difficult stage for all of us. We overcame all critical situations and grew as a family (today I have another brother who is 9 years old) and I was growing and looking for my own path.

Since I was little I have a special affinity for music, my uncle is an amateur saxophonist and it was always a joy to hear some arpeggiated notes or a simple melody. When I was 9 years old, a teacher came to my primary school to present a social project and demonstrate the violin and the viola. Needless to say, the choice was quick and easy, I immediately fell in love with the warm and deep tone that this instrument is able to produce. I ran after the opportunity and after a brief selection phase I was confirmed to learn music for free. The social project I'm talking about is called "Música para Todos", created by violinist and conductor Eliseu Silva in partnership with Curso de Música Silva Monteiro and supported by the Porto City Council and the Cerco do Porto Schools Group, aiming to present classical music to needy children, giving them the opportunity to learn, grow and develop through music. I attended the Cerco Schools Group from the 1st cycle to secondary education and, there, I was also given all the conditions to improve my music. The project "Música para Todos" changed my life and continues to change many!

I completed my academic training with Professor Emanuel Vieira in Curso de Música Silva Monteiro, a school that welcomed me so well in my 8 years of training and maturation, while attending the EBS Cerco do Porto, where I was also very good treated by the entire educational community, especially by the director Manuel António Oliveira, who helped me achieving the success in everything. At the moment, I am attending the 1st year of my bachelor degree at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE), in the class of Professor Jorge Alves.
