3 days, 600 kms pedaling ... because we believe that BEING DIFFERENT DOES NOT MEAN TO BE UNABLE! And you, what are you capable of doing?
The Leiria Dance Association (ADDDL) is a non-profit association that has been developing a pioneering inclusive dance project (Projeto Soma) in Leiria for about 2 years.
The Project comes from the desire to provide children, youth and adults with some type of limitation, physical or cognitive, the contact with dance, creative movement and body expression, promoting self-awareness of their abilities and working simultaneously their self-esteem, emotional expression and active participation in the local community.
In parallel, an inclusive work is done through the creation of choreographed pieces, performed with the ADDDL dancers in conjunction with the students of the SOMA project, culminating in a work in which complicity and symbiosis among all members is more than evident. This work is later presented to the local community, in a single show, where it is perceivable that difference is not synonymous with incapacity.
The SOMA project has been developed with some support, although insufficient to cover all the expenses. Because we believe in the project and value of DIFFERENCE, we decided to combine our pleasure in cycling with the belief that we have in the value and success of the project, sensitizing the community to the need to support it, contributing to its continuity.
As a way to promote SOMA, we will develop the initiative "SOMARKMS, 600 km pedaling for EQUALITY in DIFFERENCE", which consists of the realization of the Lisbon - Santiago de Compostela bicycle connection in three days (initiative with all expenses covered by local companies).
Why Santiago de Compostela and why three days to do the 600 km?
Because Santiago is a site of FAITH and we also BELIEVE in the value of the project.
Because we want to show the community that it is not just another project but the PROJECT that is worth investing in and we want the sacrifice we will make to convey to everyone the value of the work that is being developed.

About the author
ADDDL believes that DIFFERENCE is not synonymous with DISABILITY and that, with the Soma Project, in the long term, we can contribute to a change of mentality within the Leiriense and, perhaps, national community.
With the initiative "SOMARKMS - 600 kms pedaling for EQUALITY in DIFFERENCE" we hope to be able to give motto to a movement that inspires us all to try to overcome our own limitations because being different does not mean being incapable, but rather doing it in an alternative way!
Rolando Gaspar - Author of the SOMARKMS initiative
Graduated in Educational Sciences, he has been a Social Educator in a Nursery and Youth Home since 2008. He has been involved in associations for more than a decade and has coordinated several community development projects. He is president of the General Assembly of ADDDL.
Ricardo Coelho - CO-Author of the initiative SOMARKMS Member of the Refood Leiria Movement Leadership since 2015. Chairman of the Board of Directors of ADDDL.
Carlos Vieira - participant in the SOMARKMS initiative He started cycling in 1965 and represented F.C. de Alverca, Sporting Clube de Portugal, several clubs in Leiria, and currently the União de Ciclismo de Leiria. Tri-World Recorder of Bicycle Resistance (World Record of Guiness in 1983, 1990 and 2014). 1986 and 2014 - realization of the Vatican connection - Fatima, having been received by Pope John Paul II and by Pope Francis. 2016 - AWARDED as "PORTUGUESE OF VALUE 2016" by LusoPressTV - France.
The aim of this initiative is to reach € 3,758 (50% of the total planned project expenses, plus PPL commission costs) by 31 July 2017 to help defray the SOMA project during the school year 2017/2018. The amount is calculated on the basis of the following budget.
2.400€ - Training costs (trainer's fees) - (€ 300 x 8 months)
2.000€ - Travel and stay of the trainer (250 € x 8 months)
1.470€ - Inclusive Dance Classes (14h monthly x 15 € / h x 7 months)
* Considering the specificity of work done with a population with limitations / deficiencies, mainly at a cognitive level, the support of a professional specialized in this area is required and regular supervision is required in order to respond to situations that occur within the class.

1.950€ - Tuition fees for students (€ 15 x 13 students x 10 months)
800 € - Individual sessions of DanceMovimentoTherapy (80 € x 10 months)
