We are a group of 12 voices originating from a pop/gospel root sound and we're about to celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2015.
Although we have published some records in these almost 20 years, our visibility is mainly due to the collaborations we've done with great names of Portuguese music: Rui Veloso, Sara Tavares, Boss AC, Ala dos Namorados are just a few examples.
Our most recent collaboration was with Ala dos Namorados with the song "Caçador de Sóis", which has just been nominated for the portuguese Golden Globes for best song of the year.
The present state of music in Portugal makes it increasingly difficult for artists to finance projects through record labels.
Over the years SHOUT! have been developing their repertoire and receiving compositions by authors/ composers who recognize their talent and originality, so recording this new album is the next step in our journey. This new work is a reflection of our history, with all the influences that have marked us over time, and which show an increasingly own unique identity in the Portuguese music.
"Sorri (Smile)" is the theme of this project, because we believe that music is one of the major vehicles of happiness in life!
We want to give you our smile, we want to help you SMILE.
About the author
Shout! is a group formed by 12 singers that base their music, energy and joy on a gospel sound.
During their 19 years of career they’ve consolidated their position on the portuguese artistic world with 4 published records: the first Gospel album published in Portugal, in partnership with Sara Tavares (“Escolhas”, 1995), “Human Faith” (2002), a Christmas album (“Shout! Natal”, 2002) and the CD/DVD “Gospeling” recorded live in 2009 at the Grand Auditorium of Centro Cultural de Belém and released in 2011.
Shout!’s public and artistic recognition is confirmed not only by the innumerous collaborations with artists such as Boss AC, Sara Tavares, Mariza, Ala dos Namorados, Mafalda Arnauth, João Gil, Susana Félix, Rui Veloso, Rão Kyao, Tucanas, Ricardo Ribeiro – amongst others – as by the Award winning of the “Pedrada no Charco” Trophy in 2008, granted by Central FM Rádio Clube de Leiria to the Best Portuguese Gospel Band.
Gathering inspiration either from New Gospel and traditional Gospel songs, Shout! have been reinventing and broadening their musical approach and expression by including in their repertoire unique and unexpected versions of songs such as Cindy Lauper’s “True Colours”, “Redemption Song” from Bob Marley or Peter Gabriel’s “Don’t Give Up”, trying to incorporate and blend them with some traditional Portuguese sonority elements. In parallel, they’ve been actively collaborating on the creation of new arrangements and versions for Portuguese artists, of which are recent examples hits like “Tu és mais forte” (Boss AC) and “Caçador de Sóis” (Ala dos Namorados), this last one recently nominated for “SIC/Caras” Golden Globe Award for Best Song in Portugal.
2014 is a year of great challenges and also of accomplishment for Shout: the band will record its 5th album!
