Pé n'A Terra 2013 - International Day for Biological Diversity

Para celebrar 22 de Maio, dia Internacional da Biodiversidade, o BioDiversity4All está a organizar a terceira edição do evento "Pé n'A Terra". Serão atividades a decorrer por todo o País - A tua participação é importante!

 The 22^nd of May is the International Day for Biological Diversity

To celebrate this day, the BioDiversity4All is organizing the 3^rd edition of the national event “Pé n'A Terra”. The event will take place between the 18th and the 26th of May in Portugal.

The goal of this event is to multiple outdoor activities throughout Portugal where participants will be guided to observe the amazing collections of living beings at beautifully located sites. The species sightings collected the participants will be registered in the website www.biodiversity4all.org to be validated by taxonomic experts and become available to the general public.

The outdoor activities will be organized by the BioDiversity4All partners and/or by anyone who would like embrace this challenge. We will have a calendar outlining the activities proposed by each of the partners and users in BioDiversity4All website.

This year we decided to create unifying activity elements in close collaboration with several taxonomical experts. We are developing four outdoors activity handouts with easy-to-follow instructions to guide all interested during an outdoor biodiversity survey. The selected themes are: Lichens, Plants, Pond Animals, and “Species of the Beach”.

We would like to support this idea. We would like to invite you to this great event! We will mail you the four outdoors activity handouts, and all you need to do is to enroll in any activity organized by our partners, bring a group of friends and have fun registering Biodiversity! After your activities are done, please don’t forget to register all species and sightings on www.biodiversity4all.org so that all could benefit from the information you collected! You are important to build up this project!

Your contribution will be towards a sum of 750€ to be used in producing the four outdoors activity handouts and in covering the costs of event organization. The more we raise the better the results will be! Can we count with your support?

The Biodiversidade Para Todos is a non-profit organization with a specific mission: to catalogue the Portuguese Biodiversity and raise public awareness on the subject through the website BioDiversity4All.

The project BioDiversity4All – Biodiversity for all enables anyone to register sightings of plants, animals and mushrooms within the Portuguese territory, thereby educating and raising awareness and interest to the all things living, using a web 2.0 concept with an easy and fun website to use and explore.

This is a new concept of “citizen science” and we are an open platform connecting the public at large and the scientific community in order to generate societal benefits. You can provide highly valuable scientific information and simultaneously learn and appreciate the importance to preserve and interact with the Biodiversity in a sustainable way. Presently, we have over 148 000 sightings of different species done by more than 1400 users and partners in Portugal.
