A beautiful moustache to support Maratona da Saúde

My name is Tiago Carneiro, I'm 35 years old and have a beautiful moustache to support Maratona da Saúde!

In 2013, Maratona da Saúde and RTP got together to launch an innovative project in Portugal that will raise funds for biomedical research, that enables the acceleration of prevention, diagnosis and better treatments for the main incurable diseases. The first edition of Maratona da Saúde will be dedicated to cancer.

We will join efforts to accelerate research through the work of our scientists. Financing projects of excellence in health and science is to open the way for the discovery of new and better treatments for our patients and ensure a happier future to our families and friends.

Statistics show that in Portugal prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. Testicle tumours, although rare, are the most common tumours in men between 15 and 34 years old.

About the author

My name is Tiago Carneiro, I'm 35 years old and have a beautiful moustache to support Maratona da Saúde. I am a scientist and now direct the biosafety department at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, in Oeiras. For many years, I developed cancer research, studying the mechanisms that protect normal cells from becoming tumour cells.

I like traveling, listening to music and having friends at home for dinner parties. I love animals and have a beautiful Schnauzer named Tudor. To perform laboratory experiments is very similar to cooking recipes in the kitchen: the key ingredients are a good dose of creativity and a lot of passion!
