We are organizing this campaign to commission the piano reduction of the orchestral part of the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra by Joly Braga Santos. The reduction will be done by the composer Yan Mikirtumov. Our goal is to publish a version of this work for Cello and Piano.
Our aim with this campaign is to commission a piano reduction of the orchestral part of the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra op. 66 by Joly Braga Santos. This reduction will be done by the composer Yan Mikirtumov and will be edited and published by Ava Musical Editions.
This Concerto for Cello and Orchestra is an important work in this genre by a 20th century Portuguese composer. The piano reduction will make it available to a larger number of musicians in both academic and professional contexts, allowing it to be performed/studied more frequently. It will also encourage its inclusion in the repertoire list of national and international cello competitions, contributing for the promotion of the music by Portuguese composers. The score will cost 32€, when sold after this campaign.
Ava Musical Editions was founded in 2007 to publicize and promote Portuguese Music. The works by the Portuguese composers represented by Ava Musical Editions are available and accessible to all performers and artistic promoters worldwide.
At this moment, our catalogue includes 1789 works (plus 65 in the last phase of edition) by 253 composers of which 176 are Portuguese. All our work was made with our own funds except the edition of 21 works, that was supported by Direcção Geral das Artes in 2011. In 2014 we also received the support of Secretaria de Estado da Cultura throuhg dgARTES.
Ava Musical Editions collaborates regularly with OPART, Câmaras Municipais de Cascais, Castelo Branco e Figueira da Foz, CCB, Culturgest, Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, RTP/RDP Antena 2 (edition of the works commissioned by Prémio Jovens Músicos), CESEM, Universidades de Évora, Minho e Aveiro – among others. We also regularly support national music competitions and music festivals, awarding prizes to the winners.
Ava Musical Editions is the only national publishing company of symphonic scores in classical music with a regular activity in the past years.

About the author
Yan Mikirtumov was born in Moscow (Russia) in 1974. He started studying music at the age of 5 at an especial boys choir school called “Sweshnikov” in Moscow. In 1997 he finished his Master degree as a Choir conductor, singer and teacher in Academy of Choral Art in Moscow, where he studied with V. Popov (conducting) and Mikhail Arkadiev (piano). In 1997/1998 he took the composition course in Moscow Conservatory with R. Ledenev, G. Dimitriev, V. Agafonnikov. Doctor of Music and Musicology by University of Évora (2013) with thesis “Piano reduction: Three specificities”.
Since 1989 he started his performing work as a singer, choir conductor and a pianist. He has participated in concert tours and recording in Europe and North America, worked with baroque music ensembles and drama - theatres in Russia.
Since 1999 he works and lives in Portugal where he works as a music teacher, accompanist and a composer. He has founded his own children choir in Albufeira and his quartet "Con´tradição" which performs his own music. Yan Mikirtumov has collaborated as a conductor with Lisbon Opera Theatre in the work of the opera "Boris Godunov" of M. Mussorgsky. His choir represented Portugal in France, Germany, Greece, Austria and Spain on Festivals of Youth Choirs. He has recorded and participates in recordings of more than 50 CD´s as a conductor, composer, pianist-accompanist and producer including recordings label Melodia, Dargil, Universal, Russian Estate Radio & Television, NDR (Germany) and Antena2 (Portugal). He was a President (2012) and member of jury at Freamunde International Choir Competition (2010, 2014).
He collaborates with various musical entities such as: the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Gulbenkian Fondation, the Portuguese National Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras, the Classical Orchestra of the South, Eborae Music, Estoril Interpretation Competition among others. His arrangements and compositions were commissioned by orchestras, chamber music groups and soloists in Portugal, Spain, Romenia, Finland and Russia. He participated in several projects in Cape Verde and Angola, among which exclusive arrangements and orchestrations for Tito Paris & Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra Project that was performed in Portugal and Cape Verde (2009) and "Sounds of September" Project with classical orchestra and band playing with well-know African singers, like Tito Paris, Paulo Flores and others in Luanda, Angola(2011). Some of his works were edited by publishers "Copy-us" (Germany), AvA Musical Edition (Portugal) and Ricordi.
Currently, he is a professor at the National Academy of Orchestra in Lisbon, the University of Évora and Piaget University.

Gostaria de lembrar que o prazo da campanha está a terminar, e não está, nem de perto nem de longe a atingir os valores mínimos espectáveis para obter sucesso.
Peço-vos que divulguem junto dos vossos contactos que eventualmente possam estar interessados, de modo a não deixarem de contribuir e ajudar a que este projecto se concretize.
Penso que seria uma boa maneira de homenagear este grande compositor que faz 30 anos que morreu, disponibilizar e divulgar a sua obra.
Já que as entidades deste país deixam passar ao lado a efeméride dos 30 anos da morte de um dos maiores nomes da música portuguesa, que a comunidade musical e os músicos para o qual o compositor escreveu, não deixem.
