Joana, Princess of Portugal | Children's Book

Hello! My name is Vanda Furtado Marques and I want to tell you a story. The story of one of the most iconic princesses of Portugal: Joana, Princess of Portugal. Blessed Joanna of Aveiro.

This book was born by one of my life projects: the dissemination of the history of Portugal for the youngest. The choice of Princess Joana specifically inspired me to tell his story because of her figure, which has a huge spiritual wealth and an innate goodness, and that does not have the recognition that I believe it is due.

The story of this princess has stuck with me because of her courage, determination, dedication, selflessness and detachment from material goods. This princess could have had a princely life, but decided to follow his heart and his inner voice. It was a kind soul that everything she made was for the benefit of others. The children of this days need to get to know this great role model of our history, so that they can believe in a better and more fraternal world.

I was joined by Ana Mateus, who dedicated with love for the message of this project, creating fascinating illustrations. I was also joined by Carina, who try to put the text of the story dancing along with the graphic images. They are two enormously talented young women.

Together, we have embraced this project so that young people could start loving this heroine of our history.

However, we need some support to make this story available to you. A small contribution to this great dream. (Every small contribution can help making this big dream come true.)

Please help us in spreading this personality of the history of Portugal, since there is almost no physical and educational material about this Princess for the little ones.

Vanda Furtado Marques.

I was born in Alcobaça in 1968. I had the privilege of growing up in a family where the culture and the world of stories were constant.

Since little one, I remember my mother telling the stories of aunts and grandparents, great-grandparents. They were truly fantastic stories where ancient treasures, misunderstood loves and struggles for freedom were unraveled in the family firesides. Those moments were magical, and we, the children listened without flinching and with bated breath, for they had stories that were even chilling.

It was by this context and with the birth of Sarah, the first of my three children, which sparked me the will to write.

In 2007, with "O Amor de Pedro e Inês" I took the first steps in children's writing. In 2008 followed "O Milagre de Isabel e Dinis" and "Padeira de Aljubarrota". In 2009 Ipublished "A lenda da Fonte da Senhora" and "D. Fuas Roupinho ". In 2010 I published "D. Nuno, O santo cavaleiro" and "O Rei e a Estrela". In the year 2011, "A herança de D. Filipa e D. João I". In 2012 I introduced "Monge detetive in Alcobaça Abbey" and the "Sonho de um Castelo " in partnership with the Jardim de Infância do Casal dos Ramos. In 2014 I ventured a copyright issue with "Histórias para Corações Doces".

I am currently a professor at theExternato Cooperativo da Benedita and teach the Literature II discipline in IPL Santarém and Leiria in the course of Librarians.

Budget and due dates

The main objective involves having up to 10 April 2016, 2000€, in order to print a number of books to start to drive the project and have available at launch during the Festival of Saint Joan in Aveiro, beginning in early of May. The model and structure of the book is already all set.

If we come to 2000 euros intend to print:

- 400 copies of books, Hardcover, 20x20 cm, 36 p., Imp. 4/4, colors, on coated paper 170 grams.
