The TLMoto team its a project that gathers engineering students to build a track motorcycle and compete in an academic international event.

The team TLMoto pretends, along with your support, to participate in the fourth edition of the Motostudent, where teams of many worldwide Universities build and project their own motorcycles to run in the Motorland Aragón international circuit.

We were the only portuguese team present in the third edition, where fourty two teams of the following countries participated: Spain, Italy, Brazil, USA, Ecuador, England, Venezuela and Hungary.

The first participation of the in MotoStudent

Our ambition has always been a continuos tecnological progress. Our first participation was based upon the development and construction of a motorcycle with a frame of variable geometry. Now we want to go further and advance with the building of the first electrical motorcycle for track, developed in national territory.

If you are interested in getting more information, you can contact us through the available means.

You can also look for all the information regarding the competition rules on the organization's event website.

About the author

The Instituto Superior Técnico, from Portugal is an international reference in Engineering, besides teaching many kinds of engineering it also promotes the entrepreneurship spirit so that students can succeed in their projects.

The core team is composed of mechanical engineering students, nevertheless there are other and very important skills only gathered when joining different engineers, such as electronic and aerospace. Currently our team is composed by the following members:

  • André Xavier - Electrical Engineering
  • António Januário - Mechanical Engineering
  • Bernardo Ribeiro - Mechanical Engineering
  • Diogo Neves - Aerospace Engineering
  • Diogo Nunes - Mechanical Engineering
  • Gonçalo Cabecinhas - Electrical Engineering/Energy Management Engineering
  • João Ramos - Mechanical Engineering
  • Leonor Neto - Mechanical Engineering
  • Márcia Figueira - Mechanical Engineering
  • Mariana Silva - Mechanical Engineering
  • Mário Martins - Mechanical Engineering
  • Marta Boavida - Mechanical Engineering
  • Miguel Morgado - Mechanical Engineering
  • Pedro Cadilha - Aerospace Engineering
  • Rodrigo Martins - Mechanical Engineering

Each team member has a crucial role in order to achieve our goal of building a motorcycle. This can only happen due to the personal urge of each member to revitalize the motorcycle industry in Portugal.

Budget and due dates

At the present moment we have to finalize the pre-registration, which will only be valid after a payment of 3500€ (value needed to register 9 team elements and common parts to all teams – engine, suspension, wheels and brake bodies). The limit date is the 31st of May. A second official date, pending confirmation, but with a time interval defined around the month of autumn 2016, is when the competition event is held. The project can be divided in three phases: study, conception and tests. The first is already going, which can be described by retrieving and analysis of useful information to the good study that we as future engineers propose to. The second, will be longest one, since most of the motorcycle parts need to be designed and manufactured. Last but not least, we will have the long waited bench and circuit tests, where fine tuning of the machine is conducted and, if needed, last design modifications. It becomes necessary to take into consideration that it is impossible for now to precise all due dates for each phase, since we as students have other responsibilities to attend, like university assignments, tests and exams. The value asked considers the spending we had with the previous participation, travels, tests and accommodation of the team, be it through the development of the project, as the three days during which the competition is held. However, the value we are asking does not account for all necessities of this project, only a sixth of it. Like in the previous participation, we are relaying on private companies sponsorship. This sponsors support us with money, manpower, services and knowledge.
