About the author
Towards the end of XVII centuary, in 1680, the Nero family of Italian origin, comes to Portugal, settling in Sesimbra to produce salted, dried and salted fish, exporting these to Spain and Italy.
In 1912, Amadeu Henrique Nero, with only 23 years of age, following the family tradition, founded in Sesimbra, his firs caned fish factory. Around 1926 he gave up the cured fish industry, inherited from his family's past generations, and dedicated exclusevely with remarkable success, to the canned fish industry and won, with distinction, a silver medal at the Regional Exhibition of Setúbal, in 1930.
Throghout those years and until 1989 when the company closed, they were exporting mainly to several countries in Europe,to the United States of America and some Asian countries.
In 2010, José Nero, rescues old brands that were forgotten, such as: Catraio brand (tuna filets in olive oil); Georgette brand (sardines in vegetable oil and tomato sauce); Naval brand (Portuguese Codfish) and launch them again into the market ,with great sucess.
The following year, combining his know-how with innovation capacity, José Nero, introduces products never before made such as: Black Scabbard fish filets in olive oil, soon considered a delicacy by the consumers. Another delicacy he also introduces during this year is the Anchovies in Douro's Moscatel Wine, a partnership with "Quinta das Lamelas" - wine producers. Those novelities were quickly recognized and well accepted both the national market and the internacional market.
Recently, José Nero, launched other reinvented novelities into the market such us Tuna with Rosemary and Tuna with ham and olives, with great success.
