The artist Sara Maia was invited by the curator Elisa Ochôa to develop an artistic Project for the Cultural Centre of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, in the city in Bogotá, in Colombia, for January of 2016.
The CCGGM is one of the most prestigious cultural places of Bogotá. This curatorial project consist of presenting a tridimensional piece that reflects and allows the visitors to experience how is to live in a forest inside a complexed and highly urban space such as the city of Bogotá. What kind of relations or non-relations one can have when entering this piece, how can one relate with the natural landscape when this one is totally baffled by the human construction? Reflecting on Colombia is also reflecting on the multiple contrasts there are between the forest and the city, its own geo-political boundaries, but also its relations of interdependence. Observing images of Colombia one can immediately ask how the two scenarios interconnect and articulate. The visitor is invited to experience the forest atmospheres inside a museum and hopefully feel the different habitats that the space provides in contrast, but in harmony, with the urban design of the cities.
