I want my castle back! A new roof is needed at the Palace of the Counts to reopen the area for visitors.
During Storm Kristin, the roof of the Paço dos Condes building was significantly damaged, exposing the interior to the elements and compromising the museum area's accessibility to the public.
In terms of strategic priorities, it falls under the following categories:
- Cultural and sports infrastructure;
- Public spaces and green areas;
The Palace of the Counts and the Towers of the Medieval Village of Ourém were commissioned in the 15th century by D. Afonso, 4th Count of Ourém, to serve as an official residence. This National Monument is considered one of the most remarkable examples of medieval manor architecture in Portugal, reflecting the military, economic, and symbolic power of the time. The complex consists of an imposing central tower, used for residential purposes, flanked to the south by two defensive towers, which reinforce the monumentality of the space. Its restoration is imperative so that it can once again be visited by the public.
The intended audience for this intervention includes all occasional visitors and tourists to the medieval town of Ourém.
