Plant Hope in Serra da Lousã: Support the Tree Maternity

Join us on this mission so as not to miss the only native tree nursery in the country that has already germinated millions of babies that helped lands affected by the fires

Hello everybody,

We are Louitânea- Liga dos Amigos da Serra da Lousã, a non-profit association whose area of activity is the conservation of the natural heritage of Serra da Lousã.

With this in mind, we have diversified numerous projects, including the management of the Tradições do Xisto Ecomuseum, and different centers such as the Environmental Interpretation Center, the Coirela das Agostinhas Center and the Tree Maternity Center. Environmental education work in conjunction with the Benfica Foundation, which aims to promote environmental education and plant 10,000 trees per year. We are part of the "VAMOS" project (Agro-forestry Valorization - Organizational and Social Movement) which aims, among other things, to raise awareness of greater environmental awareness, and the promotion of good, economically sustainable environmental practices. Another major project of ours was the creation of the "Vale do Ceira Patrimonial Park", which aims to enhance and revitalize the Ceira River Valley in its cultural and natural aspects.
Most of these projects are only possible to carry out due to our effort to keep the Tree Maternity Center always full of life, being our main center and what allows us to preserve and protect native species and species on the verge of extinction.
When we had the opportunity to implement the tree nursery, a local resident who was moved by the purpose of this center offered us one of her plots of land that had been abandoned.
To make it possible to use it, we had to carry out some works and improvements to the space, such as raising walls, fences, installing irrigation systems, among others.
It is with great sadness and after decades of work and dedication given to this space, where 1 million trees have already been born and millions more have been generated that we were contacted that in order to remain here we have to acquire the land and unfortunately we do not have funds in the monetary value necessary to your purchase.
With this we want to ask for everyone's help and collaboration by donating any monetary amount, or sponsoring trees.

Lousitânea – Liga de Amigos da Serra da Lousã, is a non-profit association whose scope of action is the geographical space of Serra da Lousã, with particular emphasis on the municipalities of Góis, Lousã and Castanheira de Pera, but also in the area of intervention by the municipalities of Figueiró dos Vinhos, Miranda do Corvo, Pampilhosa da Serra, Pedrógão Grande and Penela.
The corporate purpose of Lousitânea is related to nature conservation and the valorization of the cultural, historical and human heritage of Serra da Lousã.
Based on Rua dos Bois, in Aigra Nova, one of the four Schist Villages in the municipality of Góis, Lousitânea has been concerned since its foundation in 2003 with bringing together the living forces of this territory around the Association. On December 26, 2022, it celebrated its 19th anniversary, committing to continue in the future the projects it develops and which are certainly an added value for the municipality of Góis, and other municipalities in Serra da Lousã.

Budget and due dates

The cost of the land is 3,500 euros, the association is only able to provide 300 euros which will be used to carry out the deed, property register, IMI and other associated costs.

The amount they are asking us for is high for a rustic plot of land, but it would be more expensive to acquire another plot of land and carry out all the necessary changes such as soil preparation, installation of irrigation systems, movement of all materials and including the loss of thousands of trees already in germination and growth and in maternity.
