My first fantasy novel

I finally finished my first fantasy novel and I would like to be able to publish it with a traditional Portuguese publisher. However, due to the amount that publishers ask for in Portugal, it is difficult for me to pay the full amount.

I am a published writer and have several books for sale on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other platforms.

This year, being an emerging and independent Portuguese writer, brought me many limitations and I didn't get the sales I wanted.

I want to be a Portuguese writer that everyone is proud of and build my legacy little by little. And then you want to publish my manuscript with a traditional publisher in Portugal, since this time, my books will be on sale in traditional stores. I have the dream of walking into a store in Portugal in any location and seeing my books for sale. I have tried several times to obtain funds but it is difficult to find someone to invest in my fantasy project.

The book:

My book, titled “Por Uma Unha Negra” in Portuguese and “Lost Hope” in English, delves into a dark fantasy story in a different world that is crumbling into pure chaos and destruction. It's a story that combines sadness and grief with hope and unity to offer readers a truly immersive and unforgettable experience. I dedicated all my heart and soul to each page, with the aim of evoking emotions, challenging perspectives and awakening the imagination of those who embark on this literary journey.

Why do I need your support?

Publishing a book is an exciting but financially challenging endeavor. As an aspiring author, I have encountered numerous expenses associated with self-publishing, such as professional editing, cover design, formatting, marketing, and distribution costs. Although I have invested my own resources to bring this project to its current stage, I now find myself at a crucial juncture where additional funds are needed to ensure a successful launch.

About the author

My name is André Gomes, I'm from Caldas da Rainha. I currently live in Sofia, Bulgaria since 2017.

I'm 32 years old. I'm a published author with a burning passion for the art of storytelling. However, when publishing on the Amazon platform, I realized that it is difficult to be a "lone wolf" and do everything yourself without a professional service to save the day. I have put countless hours, sleepless nights, and immeasurable dedication into creating a manuscript that I believe has the potential to captivate readers from all walks of life. But now I need your precious help. Writing has always been my refuge since I was 13 years old and letters were my sanctuary, and now it's time to share my work with the world. Both in English (primarily) and in Portuguese (translation).

Budget and due dates

Justification of the requested amount:

As it is a work with characteristics that enhance it, the publisher recommends the author to purchase 60 copies, at 14.00 euros each, for a total of 840.00 euros, alternatively, the purchase of a larger number of copies perhaps it is more compensatory. If you prefer, you can choose to purchase 100 copies, at 11.50 euros each, for a total of 1150.00 euros. They give the author the possibility of paying in full or in monthly installments, on dates to be agreed between the Author and Publisher.

Everything included in the editing service:

Personalized monitoring of the author;

ISBN registration of the work and legal deposit;

Text review of your original by a certified professional;

Quality graphic design for editing the cover and pagination of the work;

Promotional material: interview, press release sent to the media and promotional images, worth 175.00 euros, which will be offered by the Publisher at no charge to the author;

Print on soft cover, large format (15x23), with flaps;

Communication service that will organize, initially, an online and in-person launch, and produce digital material [invitations and posters] for the launch and other public presentations;

Work permanently highlighted in our physical bookstore;

Offer of bookmarks.”

This price was offered when I sent the manuscript for 250 pages.

However, I finished the manuscript in 320-odd pages. Therefore, the minimum and maximum ceiling is between 1000 and 2000 euros at the moment.

The second part of my plan and which justifies the value above, is to be able to send my manuscript “Por Uma Unha Negra” which has already been worked on and translated by me for “Lost Hope: part One” to a publisher in the United Kingdom or a American publisher that offers a similar value, but it may even be higher, because it depends on each publisher accepting manuscripts in English but from foreigners.

I tried to calculate a not too high amount but there are some expenses added to the plan of publishing a manuscript divided into two languages.

Travel costs for book presentations and/or interviews planned by the publisher are added. I also want to make sure that my manuscript is covered by Portuguese copyright.
