Publishing a comic book today is not an easy deed, but with everyone’s support and goodwill, we can recover some treasures from the vault. I’m deeply thankful for it.
Publishing a comic book is a strenuous effort. After some conversations, I decided, with your support, to make an author’s edition with two hundred copies. The book is now ready, with hardcover and A4 portrait format, colored, with forty-six pages.
The story takes place in the vast Mediterranean area, mostly occupied by humanity. The forest is constantly smothered by tree cutting and the expansion of agricultural land. Fires, pesticides, and excessive hunting have destroyed the wild animal population, putting some species at risk of extinction. Fortunately, there are still some protected areas ...
In the forest, a family of rabbits, composed of a mother and four bunnies, live quietly in their burrow. The mother teaches them how to survive in the forest, but one youngster is reluctant to listen to the teachings.
One morning, two hunters emerge in the forest, forcing the inhabitants to flee from their homes. In the rush of escape, the most rebellious bunny accidentally lags behind and is captured, without the mother being able to stop it.

Hello everyone. My name is João Birra and I live in Almada.
I have always liked art, not only as an appreciator, but also as a creator. Painting, illustration, comics. But the time to dedicate to what we like to do most is scarce. I have won several prizes in competitions, a second place in comics, another second and an honorable mention in painting, and a first prize in ceramics with a tile panel. But, honestly, I do not enjoy participating in contests.
I went to the Artistic School António Arroio, in Lisbon, then attended a painting course at Sociedade de Belas Artes, and got a degree in Design at the ESTGAD in Caldas da Rainha.
Currently, after becoming unemployed, I decided to look for forgotten comic projects in drawers to then bring them back to life, to work again in arts on my own. I know it will be a difficult path, but it’s the only currently available, and that’s what I really like to do.
Budget and due dates
The book is ready, it will be printed as soon as the needed amount is achieved.
The budget was established by considering the publishing of two hundred copies, the ISBN and the bar code order, the text’s proofreading and translation, the purchase of envelopes and packaging, the expenses related to sending the books and rewards to addresses in Portugal, and the material to make the rewards. It was also necessary to account for PPL commissions.
As soon as the necessary amount is reached, the book goes to the printing press to be printed, and the rewards will start to be made. The shipment will depend on the number of people interested in it, but will be done as soon as possible.
