FÓNIX zine is a periodic text and image publication, open to collaborations.
FÓNIX zine is a quarterly text and image publication, open to collaborations.
I created it in 2023, using a crowdfunding campaign on this platform. With your support - and later with the support of a publisher - it was possible to launch six editions over two years. Now the publisher has stopped supporting it (*), and that is why I come to ask for your - yours! - help to continue publishing it.
In six editions released so far, Fónix zine has published around 50 authors, some emerging, others already known. We don't want to stop here. Let's fight, Together for Fónix!, so that this mission continues.
(* At the end of 2023, a publisher from Almada proposed, and I accepted, a partnership with this project. I was the artistic director, the publisher was responsible for the printing. Together, we made two editions. The third was paginated and delivered to the publisher, but it never came out. I don't know why: they didn't give me any justification. And so we ended up here: back to PPL and self-publishing.)

About the author

O criador e a criatura
), I have reached the ripe old age of 61 and I still can't sit still. I have been making fanzines and other alternative publications since at least the 1990s - unless wall newspapers also count, in which case it would be since the 1970s.
About the promoter? My name is António Vitorino, I'm not an european commissioner or a presidential candidate (jk), I've reached the ripe old age of 61 and I still can't sit still. I've been making fanzines and other alternative editions since at least the 1990s - unless wall newspapers also count, in which case it would be since the 1970s.
In 1996, I created, with a group of friends, Debaixo do Bulcão poezine - which was, I think, the Portuguese poetry fanzine that was active for the longest time. Twenty-five years, to be precise: until 2021. And it ended in the midst of a growth crisis: it had several distribution points, from Minho to Mouraria (Almada, I mean), but editions with increasingly reduced print runs. Literally, it wasn't enough to meet the demand.
In 2023, I decided to create another one, with similar characteristics. And it is for this (this) other one that I am now asking for your support.
[... or, in a more formal register...]
António Vitorino (António Carlos Ferreira Vitorino, born in Rio de Janeiro, 1963, living in Almada, Portugal, since 1973). Writer, editor, visual artist, former journalist. For 25 years, he created and edited a collaborative fanzine of poetry and images: Debaixo do Bulcão poezine , in which dozens of authors from Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Cape Verde participated.
He trained at the former Almada Cultural Centre in a variety of fields, including graphic arts, photography, screen printing, theatre and puppetry. He was a journalist between 1992 and 2007, working for various local and regional media outlets (radio and print). He has published books and poetry notebooks through the Poetas Almadenses project. He has held photography, drawing and painting exhibitions, as well as artistic installations, both in his own name and collectively. His work is represented and mentioned in several publications, both in print and online.

Budget and due dates
Budget
Four editions, 40 pages, 50 copies.
Production cost (values in February 2025): approximately 100 euros per issue. In total, 400 euros.
However, these values may increase during the current year, so I will have room to manoeuvre, given the higher production costs, to still guarantee the four editions. Likewise, I will guarantee part of the necessary funds to send to those who are buying in advance.
Calendarization
Editions in April, June, September and December.
The first will be released at the end of April (possibly on the weekend of the 26th and 27th). The following ones, preferably, at the beginning of each month.
Copies will be sent the week after each edition is released.
But why exactly 550 euros? Because to create a campaign on PPL the minimum amount to be raised is 500 euros. If it is funded, the promoter pays commissions - which, in this case, will be 50.74 euros. In other words, I will receive 499.26 euros for this project.
