Avó Maria (Grandmother Maria) transforms bread, water and field herbs into the most delicious delicacies. More than 11 million views in less than two years (2020-2022), were the inspiration to launch the book "Venham Venham Chega Para Todos” (Come on over, there's enough for everyone).

Venham Venham Chega para Todos (Come on over, there's enough for everyone) is the expression used by Avó Maria (Grandmother Maria) in her videos about Alentejo gastronomy: sharing is the key.

This adventure started in 2020 to escape confinement and today (2022) it already has more than 11 million views and 88,000 followers on facebook.
How did you reach these numbers in less than two years? With an enormous power of communication, a contagious smile, strong emotions, life stories and traditional recipes, explained step by step, with a disarming simplicity.
The success on facebook awakened the need to perpetuate traditional Alentejo recipes, as it was done at the time when the need united people.

What makes this book appealing and different?

This book is a small contribution from Avó Maria (Grandmother Maria) so that you never lose the old and delicious recipes that always mixed olive oil, bread, water, talent and dedication. In the end, “it made us happy, with a full belly.";
This book is one of the circular elements that combine both a traditional and intergenerational gastronomic experience, to invite a family sharing affection between grandchildren and grandparents.

Venham Venham Chega para Todos (Come on over, there's enough for everyone) has a cultural function: both to keep the Alentejo gastronomic tradition and to promote relations between generations.

The intergenerational context results from the fact that it was Avó Maria's (Grandmother Maria) grandchildren who helped her to create and develop this project.

The hard cover of the book represents the true gastronomic and cultural essence of this region.

The texture of the cover as well as the letters of the words inscribed on it were handcrafted.
The white of the lime, the Alentejo blue and the ocher yellow live mixed with the orange of the clay speckled with the white marble…

This book is a historical document of the memory of a poor people made up of shepherds and reapers working in the fields, bother in the cold of the winter and in the calm of the summer.

In this work, the primacy of functionality over any aesthetic intention is exalted. This is the simplicity of a suffering people’s soul who rejoiced in the community work.

Doçaria tradicional: caracóis de mel e laranja

They are recipes of affection, of hands that give love, of hearts that love each other... Like someone who breathes.
All recipes presented are in conformity with they way Avó Maria (Grandmother Maria) speaks. Expressions or words from their daily lives are kept for the sake of identification and biographical honesty.

The images that illustrate the various recipes were captured in an amateur way and are intended to recreate different moments in the author's life, without aesthetic pretensions. This book is as rudimentary as the author and, at the same time, as far head as she is.

This work is a sweet kiss to the memory of the Alentejo people who offer themselves to eternity, with the love of those who feed.

The simplicity and genuineness of Avó Maria's (Grandmother Maria) communication, the cultural value of the contents, the intergenerational relationships, reports a journey made of effort, sacrifice and also a lot of love for life and for people. Hence the need to transport so much experience to a more lasting record.
To make this possible, only with your support.
