Due to the Covid -19 pandemic, a group of people came together, with the objective of creating a solidarity event, to support Hospital de S. João and Centro Hospitalar do Tâmega e Sousa (CHTS).
A group of running aficionados decided to create a multidisciplinary solidarity race nationwide, which will take place on April 19th, with the particularity of each athlete being able to participate without leaving home. The promotion of sports practice in this period of confinement due to the contingencies caused by COVID-19, combined with the spirit of solidarity for those who are at the forefront in combating this pandemic outbreak, materialized in the promotion of this event that will have the particularity of donating all the monetary value with the inscriptions for the Hospital de S. João, in Porto, and the Centro Hospitalar do Tâmega e Sousa, in Penafiel.
The initiative was called 'Kilometers at Home' and the goal is that each athlete can travel the longest distance possible in the four hours of competition, in a confined space in the room. The route will have to be done in the garage, garden, terrace, pool, balcony or in another space that respects the recommendations of the General Directorate of Health. Taking into account the multidisciplinary nature of the event, the athlete will be free to choose the modality he wants to exercise, being allowed the use of treadmills, bicycles, ellipticals, oars, that is, accessories that excel in creativity and insert the spirit of the race.
Registration and the respective donation must be made until 10 pm on April 18, since the test will take place on the following day (April 19), between 8 and 12 am. During this period, reports will be made in streaming and from which the mandatory numbers that each athlete will use may be visible.
For the relevance of the test with regard to the promotion of physical exercise in this period of confinement and, more importantly, for the solidarity burden in the monetary support to the hospital units in question.
