We are setting up an association to rehabilitate sea turtles rescued on the island of Madeira. We need to install a piping system to improve their treatment. With your help, we can give them a new chance to return to the sea.
Sea turtles are considered the world's flagship species for marine conservation, ambassadors for the seas and used as indicators of healthy marine environments. All 7 species of sea turtles are threatened with extinction. Sea turtles range widely across the oceans, cross borders and spend long periods of time in areas beyond national jurisdiction in international waters. Their protection, however, depends mainly on local efforts.
The University of Madeira has a long record of protecting sea turtles, mainly through research and now conservation. For more information about our turtles see our website: https://tartaruga.web.uma.pt/
The sea turtles that visit our coast face numerous dangers, from fishing nets to collisions with boats. We want to set up an association in Madeira dedicated to rescuing, treating and rehabilitating these protected species, as well as creating a piping system to improve water conditions for their recovery.
With your contribution, we can start this essential project for marine conservation.
Every euro can save lives.
Don't let the next generation know sea turtles only through photos!
Join us and help return these turtles to the sea!

About the author
This project is promoted by a group of marine biologists passionate about wildlife conservation, with extensive experience in the study and protection of sea turtles in Madeira. Among the members is Professor Thomas Dellinger, an international reference in the research of sea turtles and ocean ecosystems.
United by a common mission, we want to create a safe and functional space for the rehabilitation of injured turtles, guaranteeing their safe return to the sea. Based on scientific knowledge, dedication in the field and deep respect for these species, our aim is to turn this project into a benchmark for marine conservation in the region.

Budget and due dates
To bring this project to life, we have set an initial funding target of €6,500, which will be distributed as follows:
- 500€ - Legal and administrative costs for the formal creation of the sea turtle conservation association in Madeira.
- 6.000€ - Installation of a specialized piping system for the rehabilitation tanks, ensuring optimal water circulation conditions for the well-being of the recovering turtles.
Once the funding is completed, the association will be formally created within 1 to 2 months, and the installation of the piping is expected to take place over the following 3 months, with specialized technical support.
Our commitment is to keep all supporters informed of every stage of progress, with full transparency and regular updates.
