Always on air if you donate

After many years of activity, the time has come to renew our material and this is where we ask for your help. If you want to support your local radio station, this is your chance.

After many years of activity, the time has come to renew our material and this is where we ask for your help. If you want to support your local radio station, this is your chance.

RUC's main activity ends up being in the studios of the Coimbra Academic Association's Headquarters Building. The daily use of the material over the years has led to constant degradation and, at this point, we are reaching a point where we are obliged to be alert.

With your help, we want to start a process of digitalizing RUC that will allow us to get closer to the conditions that our announcers will encounter if they take the professional path.

About the author

Rádio Universidade de Coimbra , the cultural section of the Associação Académica de Coimbra, has a unique history of continuous training for radio broadcasting. Although it is about to celebrate its 39th anniversary on March 1st, the journey taken by our station dates back to the 1940s.

Just look at João Abel Manta's mural in the AAC gardens, where you can see some young people working on the radio, to see that students have been interested in this activity for a long time. The Experimental Radio Centre (a section that would later become the RUC) was created in the 1960s, and its main focus was to broadcast live to the university canteens. Later, it was legalised and, with it, increased responsibilities. Today, it is required to comply with the rules established by the ERC and ANACOM and follow the code of ethics for journalism. The RUC plays a very important role in the academic and local scene, and is a point of reference for many of the inhabitants of the city of Coimbra.

Fulfilling its mission to inform, entertain and culturally “stir up” students from the very beginning, CER/RUC has also been a home for all those who, regardless of their academic background, show an interest and desire to participate in our daily work. As the only radio school in the country, where those who stay have the responsibility of teaching those who join, RUC has clearly succeeded in everything it sets out to do - in addition to an eclectic and high-quality programme and a wide range of events (debates, concerts, shows, etc.). If we tune into any other frequency of a professional station, it is inevitable that we will end up hearing a Ru(ian).
