Stories of My Invented Country is a children's and youth literature project that intervenes in various areas from the Cape Verdean culture: Literature, Painting, Theater and Urban Art.
Campaign Presentation
The project Stories of My Invented Country develops various activities in Cape Verde in order to promote literature, storytelling, theatre, painting and urban art.
In this particular case, with the artistic residency situated in the city of Mindelo, São Vicente Island, we intend to give the opportunity to the plastic artist, Sabino Gomes Horta, to leave for the first time the community of Rabelados de Espinho Branco (RabelArte).
Sabino never attended school, his childhood teached him how to handle the hard things in life.
He is a self-made artist and he portrays everything what he observes with a profound sensitivity.
Thus, in the illustration process from the books of the Project, Stories of My Invented Country, is observation and understanding of the text a fundamental element for the work of the artist. However, because Sabino cannot read, and because he knows no other reality than the one, he experienced in his own community, it´s essential that he has the opportunity to experience the reality described in the book.
Realize this artistic residency in the city of Mindelo, where the whole story of the book takes place, is an indispensable condition for guaranteeing the success of the illustration.
At the same time, it is a unique opportunity to realize the dream of someone who has always lived confined within the limits of a community.
Besides that, the illustrations for the books of this project are extremely significant, since they are the economic support of the life of the artist and his family.
However, although this is the third book of the project, this crowdfunding campaign is the only way that we found in order to continue our work. In fact, this campaign is a new way to make things happen in a collective way. Essentially, we believe that all together it can be even more beautiful.
