Crowdfunding - Arbitration - Quinta das Amoras

Quinta das Amoras was destroyed in December 2017. Illegalities committed by the Ministry of Agriculture prevented its reconstruction. The government accepted an arbitration but we need help with legal expenses.

Quinta das Amoras was destroyed by a storm in December 2017. For almost two years the Portuguese government illegally refused EU disaster funding that the farm was legally entitled and would have allowed its reconstruction. When it finally conceded the EU in 2020, it then refused, once again illegally, to pay it, ending the last chance of Quinta das Amoras’ to recover.
All illegalities were proven by the Inspection of Agriculture, Sea and Land Planning, as was widely reported in the press. Given the slowness of the portuguese courts, after 3 hunger strikes, the Portuguese Government finally agreed to an arbitration to speed up the process. Unfortunately, six years after the farm was destroyed, we no longer have the financial means to pay the huge legal expenses. We therefore ask for people's help so we can move the arbitration forward.

About the author

Maria José Santos - Teacher, came from Águeda to Idanha-a-Nova in 2014 to build Quinta das Amoras with the aim of creating jobs and develop the region. When the farm was devastated in 2017, she did not give up and is still trying to rebuild it.

Luis Dias - Former researcher in England, Luis Dias' family is from Idanha-a-Nova, a region he knows well. It was he who convinced Prof. Maria José to embark on the adventure of becoming young farmers in 2014 by moving to Idanha-a-Nova and creating Quinta das Amoras.

Budget and due dates

6750 euros are required for the starting legal costs of the arbitration. Additional amounts may be needed in the future, for example, for expert expenses, and we will then start new fundraising campaigns.
