At 80 years old, Joaquim Alberto remembers his life of anti-fascist struggle. Portrait of a life full of episodes that follow the most important moments in national and international political life.

Synopsis

Joaquim Alberto, now in his 80s, was a rebel on the margins of society. A young seminarian, he was expelled from the seminary, emigrated to France, lived through May 1968, became close to the armed struggle organization LUAR, was arrested while crossing between Spain and Portugal and spent April 25, 1974 imprisoned in Spain. Back in Portugal, after the 25th of April, he leads the agrarian cooperative Comunal in Árgea, fighting for the development of his land Riachos. A man's life full of upheavals.

Director's Note of Intent (Bruno Teixeira)

The film began with a focus on the clandestine emigration of Joaquim Alberto, a character I met during the filming of my master's film, "Ecos da Vermelha". Joaquim's life, including his experiences in Paris during May 68, proved fascinating, motivating me to expand the project.

Joaquim Alberto Lopes Simões has a rich trajectory, from his time at the Olivais Seminary in the 1950s, through his emigration to France, his participation in LUAR and his imprisonment in Spain, to the Agrarian Revolution in Riachos. His life is a living portrait of the dictatorship and post-revolution times in Portugal, reflecting the fight against repression and support for humanitarian causes.

This film is important to preserve History, offering younger generations a direct testimony to our past, so that they can better understand the present and avoid a repeat of a fascist dictatorship. This documentary addresses important themes in our 20th century history, such as LUAR, which deserve greater recognition.
