The Red Cross of S. João da Madeira, is supporting a family of Sudanese refugees. Three cyclists from JCDV, join this cause to pedal for 3 days between Lisbon and Porto, and raise 550 € to support this family.
We've been facing the biggest wave of refugees since II World War. Europe is sensitive to receiving them and we, ordinary citizens, cannot stand still. ' What if it were us? ' is the question we must do. In response, the Portuguese Red Cross’ Humanitarian Centre in São João da Madeira, living up to its strong humanitarian mission, is supporting a family of Sudanese refugees, consisting of 7 elements.
They are Cosmos and Nyanbol, a nice couple, with 4 children and 1 grandchild. Two of these are under the age of 3 and the others are adolescencentes. In the beginning of the integration, where resources and skills are still scarce, the family is in urgent need of a washing machine and a computer. The washing machine is an essential commodity in such a large family and the computer is very important, so that, the children can do their homework.
Three cyclists from JCDV, a mountain biking club in S. João da Madeira, join this cause in collaboration with the Humanitarian Center of S. João da Madeira of the Portuguese Red Cross and the ReConstruir - Psychology and Personal Development Office, in Vila Nova de Gaia, to cycle for 3 days (8, 9 and 10 June), between Lisbon and Oporto, through the Santiago de Compostela path, in order to raise funds to support this family in the acquisition of the computer and the washing machine, totaling 550€ required. The remaining funds will be used to support the family in their varied necessities.
