We invite you to be part of the regeneration of this small piece of land by contributing to the acquisition of plants.
Dear friends,
Here we write to you, Christophe and Ana, founders of Projecto Criana, to ask for your support in our fundraising for the planting of a biodiverse hedge on our land.
The Criana Project is based on sharing good practices both in terms of ecosystem regeneration and also in Bioconstruction, and is located in Casais da Lage. Campelos – Torres Vedras. To achieve this, we are working to create a space that is richer in biodiversity, that promotes water retention and that is more resilient to climate change.
One of the measures we are taking is the planting of a biodiverse hedge. This hedge will help us protect our land from winds, attract pollinators and provide shelter for wildlife.
At this stage, the biodiverse hedge will be planted in a U shape, covering the north, west and south sides of the land. This arrangement will create a natural barrier that will protect the ecosystem from the strong winds that blow in these directions.
The total length of the hedge is 220 linear meters, 650 plants will be needed to achieve this.
To plant this hedge, we need a total of 600 euros. This amount will be used to purchase plants.
We believe that this project is important for our community and the environment. Therefore, we count on your support to make it a reality.
About the author
The Criana Project, created by us, Christophe and Ana, aims to share/school methods of ecosystem regeneration and bioconstruction.
We are located in Casal da Lage, Campelos, Torres Vedras, on a plot of land measuring 14,300 m².
We started at the end of 2018 with the beginning of the regeneration of the land, which has been exposed to climatic factors for many years. Since then, we have planted/seeded more than 1,000 trees and shrubs.
We live in a tiny house built by us, while we built Casa Criana, a house in which we used bioconstruction techniques and bioclimatic architecture.
On a sloping, sandy-clay terrain, in 2019, we built three terraces along the contour line for water infiltration and the house, in turn, was also buried so that the visual impact was minimal.
In February this year, we became parents for the first time, to little Isaura.

Good luck,

Budget and due dates
Biodiverse hedges are made up of several species of plants that help each other in their development.
The species selected for the biodiverse hedge proposed here are:
-
Eucalyptus globulus: it is a deciduous tree that can reach up to 50 meters in height. Eucalyptus provides shade and shelter for other plants, and also helps improve soil drainage.
-
Casuarina equisetifolia: it is an evergreen shrub or tree that can reach up to 20 meters in height. Causuarina provides shade and shelter for other plants, and also helps improve soil quality.
-
Melaleuca leucadendra: it is an evergreen shrub or tree that can reach up to 20 meters in height. The tea tree provides shade and shelter for other plants, and also helps attract pollinators.
-
Myoporum insulare: it is an evergreen shrub that can reach up to 5 meters in height. Myoporum provides shade and shelter for other plants, and also helps attract pollinators.
-
Medronho: is a tree or shrub that can reach up to 10 meters in height. The medronho is a very important plant for biodiversity. It is a food source for a variety of animals, including birds, mammals and insects. Its flowers are pollinated by bees and other pollinators.
The total length of the hedge is 220 linear meters, it will be necessary to purchase 650 plants, with a total cost of €600.
(Plant species may vary, depending on nursery availability at the time of purchase)
