Amora is an ultra sweet kitten with FIP who will not survive without support to acquire medication.
Amora came to our house to keep Panda company, in August 2021 at 3 months old. We didn't imagine at the time that 1 kg of cat would steal our hearts that fast.
Amora is the personification of sweetness in a feline body, long fur, often disheveled, ears with feathers, fluffy paws on the pillows and a purr that can be heard throughout the house. Panda, 3 years older, took her in almost immediately, becoming inseparable.
Until, on March 11th, we were faced with the diagnosis of FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), in the effusive or wet version, a mutation of the Feline Enteric Coronavirus that occurs in 5 to 10% of infected cats. This diagnosis is usually a death sentence were it not for the existence of an antiretroviral drug, not licensed in Portugal but with a very high success rate in curing FIP.
We started treatment with veterinary supervision, for 12 weeks, with daily injections and bi-weekly analyzes for monitoring on March 15, 2022, after a week's hospitalization for Amora's stabilization.
Why do we need help? Each vial of the drug GS-441524 (Remdesivir nucleoside) costs us €70 and provides for 4 doses, which puts the estimated value of the drug alone for the entire treatment at €1470, not including analyses, other medication and subcutaneous serum. There are currently 79 doses left to win this fight against PIF.
Amora is stable and in a good mood but with a very swollen belly, caused by the abdominal edema caused by the virus. If this medicine starts to take effect, Amora has a good chance of recovering to 100% and without sequelae.
It is essential, for us to be successful, that the treatment is not interrupted and for that we need all the help possible.
If the amount is exceeded, our commitment is to donate the remainder to an animal aid association in the Leiria region.
Don't let the Amora PIFar!
