'Cabo Verde & Music - Virtual Museum' is a cultural and educational project whose mission is to keep alive the musical memory of Cape Verde. To expand its activities we need your help.
The 'Cabo Verde & its Music - A Virtual Museum' project aims to continue its mission of preserving Cape Verde’s musical heritage and strengthening its role as an educational and cultural space.
When it was created, the project was based on the content from Cabo Verde & a Música – Dicionário de Personagens, a book published in 2016 that focuses on the personalities within the Cape Verdean music world. Since then, it has expanded to include many other types of contents, such as discographies, films, musical traditions, quizzes, timelines, bibliographies, and much more. Currently, the virtual museum hosts over 700 web pages.
All of this information is presented through photos, text, videos, audio, and archival materials that reveal the history of Cape Verdean music. It serves as a means of telling the History of Cape Verde through its music.
In 2025, the museum will enter a new phase with the creation of new sections and content, alongside the development of versions of the website in English and Cape Verdean languages.
'Cabo Verde & its Music - A Virtual Museum' seeks to disseminate knowledge in order to preserve and enhance this crucial segment of Cape Verde’s intangible heritage - musical practices in all their scope and complexity - while offering a playful and interactive environment that can engage diverse audiences. It is also a space for collaboration, bringing together contributions that help tell the stories that make up the history of Cape Verdean music.
With all the rigor of a museum - due to its educational nature and the extensive archive - and the flexibility and reach that digital resources and the internet provide, the museum serves as a unique platform for the preservation of Cape Verdean musical history.
Based on the idea of preserving memory in order to tell history, 'Cabo Verde & its Music - A Virtual Museum' was born in 2020, publicly launched in 2021, and continues to serve as a reference for all those interested in Cape Verdean culture. It relies on your support!
